UT just won a national title and had a chance to do so because of their defense and entire team playing well. Matt Hayes from SportingNews(article below) cannot be the only one picking USC higher than UT for next year even knowing that the team is almost the same as last years except for the QB. USC meanwhile will have a new offense and the same crappy defense. Hayes mentions that he is putting the horns at 10 because, while they're loaded, they have no experience at QB. The trojans will be missing between 11-13 starters from last year and have an entirely new backfield. Where does Hayes have them? 4th. I'm okay with the guy picking USC over Texas (they have an easier schedule), but use better reasoning than 22-1=10 and 22-13=4. If it is a gut pick then please don't provide reasoning, just say it is a good ole' fashion gut pick. Gotta love the media! I don''t. http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaaf/news;...g=itswaytooearlybutheregoe&prov=tsn&type=lgns It's way too early, but here goes By Matt Hayes - SportingNews The 2006 top 10 1. Ohio State. Beat Texas in Austin and the rest of the ride is cake. 2. Auburn. If QB Brandon Cox develops significantly, Aubie could duplicate 2004. 3. West Virginia. Let's see the Mountaineers play big with everyone watching. 4. USC. New QB, new RBs, revamped O-line; yeah, like it matters. 5. Oklahoma. You'd better believe those four losses burn inside ultracompetitive coach Bob Stoops. 6. Notre Dame. The schedule is brutal, and the defense is desperate for speed in the secondary. 7. Virginia Tech. Coach Frank Beamer must rein in the Hokies' freewheeling personalities. 8. Florida. At what point will Gators fans clamor for freshman QB Tim Tebow? 9. California. Fullback-turned-quarterback Steve Levy and other stud skill players are putting it all together. 10. Texas. The Horns are loaded but have zero experience at the most important position.
Without any sort of proven qb next season you should be happy with the #10 ranking. If it makes you feel any better, Beano Cook says Notre Dame will play either Ohio State or Texas for the national championship next season.
Right!!!!! Because Aj Hawk and those LB's aren't headed for the NFL. Because Youbouty hasn't declared for the NFL. Because they're not loosing 9 starters on defense. Because Santonio Holmes is coming back. They defenitly look like a monster. ..... more like Monsters Inc.
I'm okay with the number 10 ranking. My problem is with USC losing more, yet being ranked higher. Also, LSU not being in the top 10 is a joke. This guy took 6 minutes to write the article, 3 minutes thinking about it and all of 11 minutes researching his picks. In the media world you have to know the material which you speak of or be funny. This guy was neither.
obviously talented and at the right position (qb), but they lose like 9 starters on defense. We'll see.
When you lose the best player you got of course you're going to slide. Especially if your best player is your QB and you're pressed to try and rush the learning process on your redshirt QB.
What you guys are missing is that he gives USC a top rating despite the fact they have a new QB and then puts Texas at 10 for the same reason. It makes no sense to say that a new QB doesn't matter and then a minute later to declare that UT has no chance because they have a new QB.
They'll be good...I'd say that their chances are as good as anyone else's in the top 10 to be a 'monster.' Offense will improve some with the improvement of Smith, Pittman, and Ginn, but losing Holmes will hurt. Obviously, the defense will be down. I really don't see any teams in that top 10 that are just going to be outstanding('03-05 Trojans, '05 Longhorns, etc...). At this point, it's wide open.
Notre Dame will get a shot at the national title. . . no matter what two losses won't matter Rocket River I hate the irish . . mainly because they get perks like that
Yes cohen, terrific idea, because, you know, us haters are always making UT threads and stuff. That's good stuff my man, good schtuff.
