here's an article i pulled off of espn concerning offering divac full MLE for a 36yr old. this could explain the ridiculous contracts that are being offer this year....

"Sacramento co-owner Joe Maloof told ESPN.com last week that he feared losing Divac to the Lakers because the Kings, for the second successive summer, are trying to reduce payroll to avoid future luxury-tax payments. The strategy, however, could backfire if there is no luxury tax after next season, as some teams are forecasting."

i guess we wont be having anymore luxury tax next year?????????

The luxury tax only kicks in from year to year when salaries leaguewide reach a certain % of income.

It depends on year to year whether or not it actually kicks in if salaries leach that level.

This year it probably will, next year it might not.

    Nobody knows.

I for one hope their still is a luxury cap next year. Even though the Knicks and Blazers are glad to pay it, the majority of teams dont want too which keeps everything balance. We dont need a Yankee or RedSox style spending.
