Can we pretty much say this will be the Nov 1st Roster? I just don't see any more deals being made Anyone hear anything - Any rumblings I think the squad we have now Is who we going to war with. Now come trade deadline time .. maybe different Rocket River
Might be but it is common for things to get real quite this time of year. I'd expect another round of moves to occur around training camp. I also don't think it is unusual that we don't hear any rumors. Think back on the last x moves ...how many of those did we hear about in advance? Most recently, who predicted the Battier trade. The Rafer Alston trade or even the Mike James trade before that? The JJ for Wesley trade? etc etc etc. So I'm not giving up hope that CD is still trying to work out some deals before the season starts.
I also think the Rockets have one more deal under thier sleeves. So I donot think this is the final roster. That being said I wouldn't have a problem starting the season with this roster. It's definitely an improvement over last year.
Yeah, I think one more move is still potentially there. We need another guy who can play center. Once they make that move, I'll think they're done.
A couple of years ago there was a lot of buzz about a young guy named Nate Huffman. I think he was playing in Israel. He was a 7-foot plus and mobile as I recall-- maybe a poor man's Chris Kamen. What ever happened to him? Anybody follow him or the league he's in?
I would guess that JVG is still looking for a backup center, at the very least. I seem to recall that being on his wish list.
this young guy was pretty old (27 or 28) when he signed his contract with the raptors. right now he's an old man because he's already 31. he was released by the raptors in 2003 because he had a serious injury. i think he retired some time ago.
We are very light in veteran back-court help and a veteran guard shooter who you know won't lose his stroke under pressure. I don't think we have to make a move yet, but if our guards are struggling we should make a move before the deadline.
I disagree, I totally expect more moves by the Rockets before training camp opens. Don't forget that Bonzi Wells, Al Harrington, and Reggie Evans are still out there, not saying that we would get them, but they may allow for other chips to fall around the league. Evans I expect to re-sign with Denver, Harrington will eventually be a Pacer, maybe K-Mart gets shipped somewhere as he's obviously unhappy in Denver. It wouldn't suprise me if he ended up on the Knicks somehow... But, Bonzi Wells' situation really puzzles me. I have no idea where this guy is going to play next year as no team has the cap space to sign him for the deal he wants! Maybe a SnT will allow a darkhorse team to snatch him up, who really knows... Point being, there are a lot of moves yet to be made around the the league and who's to say the Rockets won't be a part of them in the next 2 months before camp opens, not me! Love or hate our front office, they are ALWAYS wheelin' and dealin', win, lose or draw...
McGrady sounded like he expected us to still make another move or 2, since he wasn't confident with the current supporting staff ... I think a trade is in the works.
What ever it is, i hope its a med-high profile player. Signing another player like Azubuike is not much of a move!
The Harrington deal is happening with Indy. We don't have MLE money to pursue Evans or Wells. Any contract we could offer Ely would simply be matched (unless S&T). Maybe someone like Jumaine Jones or Dermarr, but I really doubt it. I think we are done for a while. I think we will use camp, preseason and the early part of the year to evaluate: 1a) Do we have our next big guard: will Snyder will be dependable and solid shooting wing for the team, or does Abuz look like maybe he could do that if Snyder just doesn't fit. 1b) Do we have our PG who can hit the 3 and play adequate in other respects: Does Rafer start shooting better (if so he could be the guy) or if not can JL3, VSpan or Head do the job well enough. 2) How are we at the 4/5. Will Deke be able to contribute where he and Howard cover the sub 5 minutes. Will Battier be able to play more than 50% of his minutes at PF. Will Hayes be able to give us 15 or more minutes of effective pla,y building off last year. I think we will try to get a handle on these things before the next move, which will likely be for a guard unless we feel comfortable for 1a & 1b AND #2 is killing us. The only reason we are pressed to move before pre-season is if we have to use the 4.2 mil TE by that time (when does it expire???). Otherwise a wait and see approach because we have so many young players we just don't know what we got, or how they will fit.
