I was hoping we wouldnt give up the 1st round pick this year because it really sucks having to wait until the 2nd round to pick, like last year.
with the way the drafts been shaping the past few years, there are alot of hs kids and foriegn players being drafted in the first round. Meaning a lot of projects that may take 1-4 years to finally happen, if they do (some may take a lot less ie: lebron and yao) but that leaves more nba ready players to be taken in the later stages. Much like how dallas picked up josh howard and the lakers got luke wallton. The rockets dont need projects at this moment, they can find the quality role players that they do need in the 2nd round to complement yao francis and mobley and back them up efficiently

we trraded it for the privilege to get rid of Glen Rice (garbage) - which is the player we got when we signed Shandon Anderson (garbage) to be our next great small forward. remember Shandon had Moochie's agent - who was hosing the Rockets for more money (even though the CBA had slotted spots for vets.) - so to get Shandon more money - he brokered the sign and trade for Rice .... we would be much better off this year if Anderson had stayed a Jazz (unless we do something with that trade exception)
No, but I'm Rick James, show me them tities *****! If we do get someone decent in the Draft i hope its aguy from Duke, either Duhon or Deng. I'd like Deng more, because if you say his name fast enough it sounds like dang, so if he does something really cool, be like Deng that was cool. LOL
You can't trade two future picks in a row. Once the 2003 draft ended, we were free to trade our 2004 pick. While 4-year college players are getting pushed down because of draft-gambles, I don't think they are getting pushed as far down as we're picking. Those guys usually go in the last half of the first round and the beginning picks of the second round. We're 55th. Remember, last year we gambled on a raw foreign player with our second round pick instead of trying to get a solid college player. Though looking at the draft class again, it doesn't look like we missed out on much.
If the Rockets like a player in the late, late first round, there is always a chance that deep, salary-conserving teams like the Kings, Pistons, Pacers or Spurs will deal their first rounder off (if they have first rounders - I don't know). All first round picks are guaranteed 4-year contracts, so some teams will be looking to unload their picks if they're not happy with their choices. Though in those instances, it's usually the lottery teams with second round picks in the 30-40 range that would have an edge (I would guess).
