is anyone else getting annoyed by the increased use of this?

people who say this after saying something like "i love this player." or "he looked good tonight." need to realize that denying something without being accused is just like admitting guilt to that very accusation! like when i asked my students "where did the dry erase marker go?" and one of them says "i didn't take it!" guess who took it? in other words, you're bringing that accusation onto yourself, which leads people to think, why are you being so defensive? must be something there that needs defending! it's a guilty response!

the rest of us understand that this is a basketball forum and that when we discuss basketball players it is under the context of, obviously, basketball! when someone says they want to see more of a player, we understand the context. you want to see more of him on the court, not in bed. when you add "no homo" that changes the context from basketball to sexual. no one else was thinking that way except for you, which makes you look suspicious of the very thing you were trying to deny. if you don't want people to take what you say out of context then don't change the context.

    example:

"i'd like to see brooks improve his ball handling." = you think he would be a better player if he worked on this skill.

"i'd like to see brooks improve his ball handling, no homo." = you think this sounds like brooks is giving you a sub-par fondle, and you hope no one will know you are thinking that. except... you just told us.

Hmmmmm if saying no homo makes it sound like you're thinking homo, then saying no no homo will put an end to that!

    this was hilarious!

but it also proves my point. no one was thinking that what the grandfather said sounded funny until the kid said it did.

it's a self fulfilling prophecy. you are worried that what you said sounded gay, so you say no homo, now everyone thinks what you said sounded gay.

mostly only middle school and high school kids use it. ive seen it in the garm recently.

Yupp. Pretty much.. A lot of times I only say it to be funny, not to be serious.. Like i'll be with a few friends, and I'll be like "dang that shirt looks sexy, no homo" lol. Its just a joke. But if someone uses it for real all the time, then yeah most likely they are really homo..

well i didnt want this to become a thread that accuses people of anything. most likely, people that use it don't understand how it makes them sound to other people. maybe they will read this and decide it's not the kind of thing they want to say about themselves, and as a result the collective IQ in the garm goes up just a little bit.

This became popular several years ago...weird that you are just now getting annoyed by it. I didn't realize that people still said that.

Most people use it to highlight a double entendre, not to seriously deny that they were thinking anything sexual/gay.

Actually you can thank Cam'ron and his Dipset buddies for this well coined phrase.
