Ballet School Changes Potter-Like Routine Mon May 10, 3:16 PM ET LONDON - There'll be no wave of the magic Harry Potter (news - web sites) wand for the 3-year-old students of a ballet school in southern England. Choreographer Valerie Le Serve said Monday she was forced to change a 10-minute segment based on the adventures of the boy wizard and his friends after author J.K. Rowling (news - web sites)'s agent pointed out a contract with movie giant Warner Bros. that bans rival productions. Le Serve said she wrote to Rowling's London-based agent, Christopher Little, as a courtesy and was surprised to receive a letter banning her from going ahead with the amateur event in Worthing, West Sussex. Warner Bros., which produces the hit "Harry Potter" movies based on the books, has rights over any live theatrical or musical production until 2007. "Sadly the position is that contractually we are precluded from granting the type of rights requested by the Worthing dance school unless Warner Bros. relent and waive their rights," said Neil Blair, a spokesman for Little. "It is simply not possible for us to pick and choose however worthy the cause, which in this particular case was clearly most worthy." Le Serve's production was scheduled as part of a variety show in November to raise money for London's Great Ormond Street Hospital for children and the Cleft Lip and Palate Association. Le Serve said she would adapt the costumes of black cats, owls and wand-carrying street traders to another story line. "I could not believe it. Friends said J.K. and her agents would not mind, but it appears they do," she said. "I am flattered that they consider us to be such a great threat to their plans in 2007."
Im sure all the parents who have had the Potter stuff finally give their children a reason to read would not agree. No matter what I did...my kid didnt have any interest in reading for pleasure until the HP movies came out. Just cause you dont like them doesnt mean they are worthy of being burned. unless you were being facetious, in which case ignore what I just said.
maybe unrelated but i read somewhere that they had to pull the nimbus 2000 magic broom toy because girls where using it as a vibrator.
No, he's right; they need to be burned, but leave Emma Watson. Ahh crap, look what you have done to my mind moes and Manny.
I dont know if that was ever true but the advertisments for it showed a girl riding on it and it showed off its vibrating features. i think it was in like Maxims or FHM 'they thought this was innocent' feature where they have like things that have double meanings and all. As for HP itself the books arent that bad I read them all as payment to a bet to my little newphew to start reading books, which he did. Even though I probably could have not read them and told him I did, I wanted to be honest to him he'll be exposed to people lying in the future no need for me to be the first. At first I had a bad view of all things HP myself, but after reading the books they really arent that bad, and they are great books for children. I found myself actually liking the books by the time if finished the last one. They dont take very long to read, despite their advertised 1000pages and all the type and spacing are large, I was able to finish the last book in 2 days. One thing I personally liked about it was that each book does show the progession of the children growing up and the mixed feelings they have going through being a teenager. Liking boys/girls etc. Sometimes it gets boring for fictional characters to be locked in time (like how bart and lisa have always been in the 4 and 2nd grade) so its a nice change of pace. Bottom line if any parents out there have kids that are at least 8 years old and havent read these books you should start them out on it. You may end up liking them as well Hell one of my professors at school reads these books
That's funny, I just read about that on Sunday. Check out the Amazon customer reviews before the product was pulled: http://www.owlnet.rice.edu/~noahd/Nimbus2000.htm
I can see why they pulled it, 12 year old girls playing with it in the bedroom? They should have done some product testing........or did they?
