So with it sounding like Durant to San Antonio and Giannis not being likely, what is the outlook for this offseason? I have a hard time being ok with just letting our young guys try again while San Antonio gets to go for it. The 10th pick probably wont play and PHX will probably be able to get some decent assets for KD so their future picks diminish in value. I am having a hard time seeing how we come out of this summer in a better position than we went into it.
PHX isn't getting jack for KD. We have ALL the leverage. Those picks are gold. Stay cool. And, forget about the ridiculous cost of Giannis.
I highly doubt they're not doing anything this summer, but even if they did, just natural growth for this team will have us improving next year. That's assuming there aren't any major injuries of course. I see you doubt that, but I can see the pathway to improving there. Past that, Cam Johnson being available would be a + addition for the team. There are number of great role players that would be awesome. Just a great shooter/starter like Malik Beasley would put us in the improving category. So many options, patience is the key. Also, I don't know where you're getting the info that is pointing you to thinking KD is probably going to Durant. It's news to me. San Antonio is an option sure, but probably? Eh...
It's crazy to think we have this year's 10th pick not even expecting it to convey from PHX considering -- at least at this time a year ago -- most didn't think they'd become the dumpster fire they currently are. And with Beal and his no-trade clause on the books (at $53M-ish per year...unless they waive and stretch...) for the next two years, that unprotected 1st from PHX in 2027 may be really good to either select or use as a trade asset. Plus we also have a swap with them in '29. I agree with Plowman -- PHX isn't going to get as much as they think for KD going into his age 37 season while taking up 35% of any team's cap space. And if San Antonio wants to give up a decent young player and/or pick for the short-term allure of KD, then great. It won't substantially change PHX's future in the short-term so we still profit off of shorting their future. No worries.
I would think that they have to give up Castle to get Durant. They’re not gonna give up the number topic and I can’t think of what else Phoenix would really want. not only that, but the dialogue with San Antonio and some of these superstars is still weird to me. I really think highly of Victor, but I do think that he is currently overrated and I think he’s still a few years away from his prime. I see San Antonio trying to play the longer game.
obviously we throw in the towel and blow it up. keep 2-3 core players and trade for moar assets. 2nd rebuild lessgoooo
The Suns reporter Gambadoro said KD and his 'inner circle' have been heavily discussing a future on the Spurs.
Do you think it's to make Htown up their offer? From what I understand, Gambadoro is a PHX mouthpiece (like Iko is a Rockets mouthpiece)
Giannis is going to cost too much and I really don't want to give up much of anything for Durant either. I'd be okay with rolling with what we have and waiting for the trade deadline personally.
Lol not panicking. Just curious how this team improves going forward. Desperate need for shooting and scoring to go along with our current roster but I dont get the impression we are looking to the draft for anything so then I question again, what's the plan for improvement?
I think the Rockets are in a good place, a very young team with tons of talent. I’m not looking for them to swing big when their window starts in another 2-3 years from now. If the Rockets can sign a good offensive coach that might be enough for next year.
Most of the trades that actually happen are the ones that are not reported. KD's reported value is quite low compared to how much he contributes to regular-season wins. Any plausible KD trade will only increase the value of the ´27 Suns pick and put more pressure on PHO to embrace a full rebuild. Booker and whatever playable scraps they get for KD is going to result in a even worse season than this year, and not much will change going into the year after. Unless Ishbia is even more of an idiot than he is given credit for, trading Booker is his only way to revive this team's future, bearing the Rockets are willing to trade the PHO picks back. I have a feeling that Booker has been the Rockets' target all along. Giannis and KD are smokescreens as neither player makes sense for this current Rockets team. Maximize the PHO picks by trading them to the Suns for Booker. If this ends up happening, the Rockets played the long con perfectly. Be patient, and let's see what happens or does not for that matter.
Stone is showing us that he is an absolute beast by not overdoing anything. KD would be nice but only on our team’s terms and to overpay for him is ridiculously shortsighted. Some of the best deals are the ones that weren’t made.
I agree. The 2027 pick from Phoenix doesn't have to convey, only allow other teams to feel they could get a deal themselves with it for trade bait. Also, the Suns will most likely try to get other teams 1st to offset the ones they lost so far.
Interesting analogy here. Imagine saving $25k to buy a car in cash and when you go to get one you realize how hard it was to save up that cash in the first place and now don't want to let it go. You can either A) keep the cash, B) buy a car outright or C) Use some of all of that cash as a down payment and go after a more expensive car that you've been dreaming about. I don't see the Rockets giving up the last few years of rebuilding over Durant. And if Giannis or anyone else, they would surely have a contingency plan to add more pieces when necessary.
FVV/Green/Jock/Holiday/2027 1st/ 2029 1st/ Dallas 2029 1st/Future Rockets first top 6 protected for Durant and Booker. Sengun Smith Durant/Tari Amen/Cam Booker/Reed Draft a best available with number 10 and hopefully still bring Adams back?
