Gamecube will be the last format system for Nintendo, Xbox and Nintendo will team up to make games for Xbox in the coming months.
The latest issue of Game Informer disagrees. On page 32 of the February 2003 issue it states: "Initial reports out of Japan are that NEC - the company that was responsible for the 8-bit TurboGrfx-16 - is already at work with Nintendo on a processor chip for the GameCube's successor. Nintendo denies that the two companies have any deal at the moment for hardware." As much as I'd love to see Nintendo's IP (Mario, etc) on the Xbox...it appears that Nintendo isn't done yet.
Nintendo will never die!!! Why are they working with NEC? Hooking up with ATI was smart, the next step should be for them to work with nvidia. They also need to switch to regular sized discs so they won't be limited by amount of info their discs can hold.
If you think that Nintendo is changing its company strategy to software-only (a la Sega), then surely they must be discontinuing the Gameboy Advance, right? One small hitch: Nintendo enjoys a "Microsoft Windows"-esque type of market share in the mobile gaming department. Due to their strangle-hold on portable gaming, I just don't think Nintendo will abandon hardware any time soon. Besides, things are looking up for the Gamecube with the bevy of new releases due out this year. If anyone is going to leave the market, it'll probably be Microsoft (although they've sunk far too much money to quit now).
Just out of curiosity...my son is almost 6 and I don't know which game system to buy him...any suggestions for a 6 yr old?
Nintendo Game Cube of course. All the kinds of games you would feel are good forl little children are on GC.
Rolls eyes... http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/2687837.stm <hr>"When we withdraw from the home game console, that's when we withdraw from the video game business," he said. <hr>
NJRocket: I would have to agree with Oski, the game selection for the Cube is ideal for kids (or people that enjoy fun games). If you're going to be getting it soon wait until Feb. 9, they are going to be offering a free game with the system then. more details And about the original post, that is one of the most ignorant things I have ever read. Nintendo makes way to much money to quit. And why would they move to XBox instead of the PS2?
Nintendo would be well advised concentrating on the handheld market (Game Boy) and getting out of the console market. Then they can make money cross-platforming their IP onto PS and Xbox. They have fallen way behind and with PlayStation and Xbox gathering more fanboys by the day, I doubt they can recover.
Refman, you are confusing the US with the world (and esp Japan). The gamecube is behind the other two in the US but is comforably ahead of the xbox in worldwide sales. No offense but you might be well advised to realize that the head of Nintendo knows a bit more about the worldwide console business than you do.
Everything I have read disagrees with Skymaster187's initial post. Nintendo has no intention is getting into bed with Microsoft. Dream on, Microsoft, Sony is going to remain #1, despite your wishes for Nintendo to help your software woes. NJRocket......I'd have to admit that the Gamecube is better for a 6-year old, all those Mario games.... however I own the other two systems (PS2 and Xbox) so I cannot account for the playability of Nintendo's games. We gave my 8-year old neice a PS2 this xmas and she loves Spyro the Dragon, Crash Bandicoot, and Jak and Dexter....so there are cool kids games for the PS2 also. (No she doesnt get to borrow my Grand Theft Auto)
This is true. Also, Nintendo is able to at least break even on each console sale if not make a slight profit, whereas Microsoft looses money on each sale, even more for the bundles they sold during Christmas.
Gamecube is comfortably ahead in JAPAN. The X-Box has a lead in basically every other country. X-box sells nothing in Japan and it skews the numbers if you just look at totals worldwide. Country by country X is ahead of Gamecube (not by a large margin, but almost invariably). PS2 destroys both, of course, but all 3 are doing well enough that they should all be around until those companies put out a new system (and all have indicated they will). BTW, Nintendo's advantage is their first party games (games they make). They have a high profit margin on those and those are the games that are selling like hot cakes for their system. So, even with a lower amount of systems sold they can make as much or more money. That's the reason the N64 made them money and it's the reason the gamecube will and it's the reason they'll be around making systems for a while.
IT is all about the content, and MS is devouring developers left and right. I would not bet against MS. DaDakota PS. The play 2 is horrible in comparison to both the X-box and GameCube.....doesn't even come close to the power of those 2.
Playability of the games are what makes Nintendo's "kiddie" games so good. Go with the gamecube and any combination of Mario Sunshine, Pikmin, Luigi's Mansion, Super Monkey Ball (1 & 2), possibly Super Smash Bros (more violence, but at least in a fun way - if that makes sense), the new Zelda, Animal Crossing, the Monsters, Inc. game, there's a Scooby Doo game, Harry Potter, Star Fox, Mario Party, Spyro, etc. Most of thsoe games will be suitable for a 6 year old and most are solid, especially hte first few
They killed themselves with the Nintendo 64, and the way they released 1 game/month for the first year. I was a big Nintendo fan, but after that there was no way I was buying the Cube.
