Who's picking it up? I know there are a lot of Wii owners here on the board. I haven't played a good Mario game since the N64 days (as I've said before I didn't like that Sunshine crap) so I'm looking forward to it. Reviews are saying it is the best one in a long, long time. Gamespot: 9.5 http://www.gamespot.com/wii/action/supermario128/review.html?sid=6182474 1UP: 9.5 http://www.1up.com/do/reviewPage?cId=3164124 IGN: 9.7 http://wii.ign.com/articles/833/833298p1.html
Gamerankings averages out the reviews to 97%, that's pretty good... But like I said in the other thread, Sunshine averaged 92%, so I take the reviews with a grain of salt.
Mario Sunshine was a very good game if you gave it a chance. It just didn't evoke the same sense of awe the Mario 64 did because the 3-D wall had already been torn down.
use metacritic.com, it's actually better than gamerankings.com. anyway, there is a substantial difference between a game that averages 92% and one that averages 97% in regards to ratings. basically most websites are saying this about galaxy: mario 64 (n64) is to the original marios brothers (nes), as mario galaxy (wii) is to mario bros 3 (nes). if this is truly the case I am beyond excited. I expected mario galaxy to be mario 64 in space (which some have also described the game as), but in a good way. anyway I have it preordered. lately I've been playing the hell out of call of duty 4 and gears of war on pc -- as well as guitar hero 3 on my wii (haven't finished metroid prime 3...yet). so it'll be nice to stop shooting things and get to some old school platforming.
Well i guess i'm being a little unfair. Sunshine wasn't 'crap', but not the quality or feel of a mario game i was used to.
Man I'm getting so far behind...but it's getting so close to Christmas I figure'd I'd just wait...still enjoying Halo and still need to finish The Bigs anyways. Will have to add it to my list along with Metroid Prime 3 and the Orange Box.
I haven't played a good mario since the SNES days, and nothing in my mind will ever be as good as SMB3 on NES. But I'd like to play this.
Yeah, it was fine, though I'm referring more to a console mario bros. After a run of SMB 3, SMW, YI and Mario64 I think Sunshine was pretty disappointing (IMO).
I too never understood the hatred for Sunshine. I loved that game. It didn't feel as good as Mario 64 because the jump from Super Mario World to Mario 64 was monumental. They went with less innovation on Sunshine, but the game was still fun as hell for what it was. The water pack could be annoying at times, but it did add some interesting strategies that I enjoyed. I am stoked about this game. I saw somewhere online that Toys R Us was doing a promotion selling this game for $49.99 and you get a free $25 gift certificate with it. If true (and my local TRU knew nothing of the ad), then that is a hell of a deal.
Hey, at least Nintendo is done turning unrelated titles into Mario games. As fun as Mario 2 was, it stuck out like an Oakley on a Rockets bench.
Chalk up another vote for someone who really enjoyed Mario Sunshine. I do have to admit, however, that there were definitely times I felt like I was playing vs. the camera and that caused some severe frustration. Overall I still think Sunshine is one of the better titles I've played for the Gamecube though.
Am I the only one that didn't like Mario 64. I still can't play Mario games unless its a side scroller. That being said, I'll think about getting this one. The reviews just look to damn good.
