God dammit people, just make me some good games! That's all I want! I'm gonna go play some Genesis...
that ps3 home trailer looks pretty tight, it has so much potential it's scary...too bad i have a real life to live.
I kind of agree. Also seems like PS3s home thingy is more dynamic. But you know those nerds out there are creaming themselves over the possibility of living their lives vicariously through polygons.
what was the name of that pc game where people create their own persona and try to live an online life, from schooling, jobs and day to day stuff, spending REAL money to show off how much fake money they could "earn"? it was similar to the SIMS but a bit different. yeah whoever came up with that idea were geniuses wasnt there something like 50k people playing it right away? i enjoy xbox live i let my membership expire recently i will buy a year's worth soon, i am just not good enough/have enough time to play online consistently. it is nice for the demos and movies/tv shows though. but i cant imagine creating an online persona and living any sort of online life, good or bad through him anymore. if i was in high school or college yeah i can understand but not anymore. if i spent all that time online with video game it'd kill into my cf.net time which is unacceptable
Second Life maybe? That's partially what Sony based Home on. It would be nice if people from Clutchfans created a apartment/neighborhood on home. Not sure how practical that would really be (especially since I don't think many people here would buy a video game console, let alone a $500-$600 console).
I think Shiggy is trying to mislead people into thinking that they rejected the approach because it wasn't a good idea. Sony's virtual world will take up a lot of bandwidth and coordination. Nintendo is a very cheap company that doesn't like cutting into their bottom line for features that could end up frivolous for gaming. It's why it took them this long to even come up with an online plan. Nintendo's online plan and style is too basic. I guess they're trying to entrench their blind cult following by complaining about features they won't willingly implement but will sell as their own idea. It's like those Mac worshipers who think their machines are superior to cheap pcs...
Agreed. I don't know if Nintendo really did consider something like Home, but as you said, I doubt they would have tried to implement it, even if it was a good idea. They seem really slow when it comes to creating anything online. While I'm posting, might as well post the FAQ for Home: http://www.scedev.net/home/Third Party Relations Q&A.pdf They really have put a lot of thought into this (which makes sense considering the project started on the PS2).
honestly, who wants to create a virtual world just so you can interactive with a bunch of other gaming geeks? i love video games as much as anyone but i don't want to chat with other dudes about it. i guess you can say that's what we're doing on the BBS, but i hope you get my point.
I know there are ~18K registered members at NeoGAF, and probably a lot more at the official IGN, Gamespot, 1UP, etc., forums. So there are a lot of people that like to talk about video games online, although perhaps not in a 3D world. Of course, if this all goes to plan, then there would be more than just games to talk about. I guess everyone would have to have a PS3 (and be a gamer to some degree), but Sony seems to want some non-game companies to participate as well. Maybe we can see something like a NBA Space, maybe with a section for the Houston Rockets. Maybe Yao Ming could be registered, and interact with others on a special promotion night (be nice to say we beat Yao Ming at a game of basketball ). If you think about it though, Home is basically just a 3D version of something like the community features offered by XBL with extra stuff thrown in. Home isn't for everyone, and it isn't meant to be. But it does add a sense of community that the PSN/PS3 was lacking.
