The only argument at this point in time, and it's a very weak sauce argument, is voter fatigue.

If your criteria is 'best player on best team,' then Jokic is currently checking that box. Boston is slightly better than Denver in terms of W/L%, but Jokic >>> Tatum.

If your criteria is 'best stats," then Jokic is currently checking that box. Dude is basically averaging a triple-double at the 5 position - something that hasn't been done, ever.

If your criteria is literal, as in "most valuable to his team," then Jokic checks that box. Without Jokic, Nuggets probably don't even make the play-in tournament. With him, they're a championship contender.

jokic is deserving of the mvp this year no question according to 538 raptor's scoring metric

my only issue is that harden was clear cut 1st in bb ref mvp tracker and the 538 raptor metric from 2018-2020 and only one one mvp.

Hardens lack of success in the playoffs was used a crutch for voters to not vote for him or so we were told. On the other hand jokic has had even less success than harden in the playoffs just like steve nash before him and nash arguably came close to winning 3 straight mvps as well. Its all about who the media likes i guess

I think the nba should publish some at least loose criteria for picking the mvp for voters to adhere to. People say best player best team but that obviously wasn't the case last year or the year Westbrook won. The funny thing is the media's own shaky standards are what causes them to squirm when they're hand is being forced into giving out a 3x mvp. The award used to come with an assumption of championship expectations.

Our stats/analytics era has really watered down the award.

I do think Jokic is one of a few good choices for mvp this year.

It will be interesting to see what happens.

people can say it’s a regular season award all they want to, but if he continues to get slapped around in the playoffs, I doubt it

Injuries can be blamed for the last 2 years, but this year? Denver better be competitive in the WCF at worst.

not even MJ or LeBron won 3 straight

Ah, I see what you mean now. Paper tiger, etc.
Even our own Moses Malone dragged a not-good team to the NBA finals. (No offense to Rudy and Calvin).

jokic deserves it based on his performances so far in the regular season as well as team's record but im not sure if he deserves the glory (mvp 3-peat) that even lebron doesn't get. luka will be face of the league and hopefully mavs can make a deal to stengthen their squad and finish top four, then I believe doncic will be given this award. just hope the team don't hold him back again.

this dude is the Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet MVP

    the advanced stats MVP

often looks like a statue on defense

there is absolutely no way in hell he should be leading the MVP race after what transpired today…Embiid handed out corporal punishment

the problem is you have dudes who never played organized ball voting on these awards, its why the players always voted harden mvp.. the players actually have to play and gameplan againist these guys

they will bring up some bullsh*t numbers and stats to try and gaslight u into believing that Jokic is actually a good defender

he gives 13-14 Harden level effort on that end just walking around and lazily waving his hands

jokic is a bigman version of luka except that he has way better teammates compared to those dipsh*ts surrounding luka. guys are unstoppable at the offensive end but their D ain't that good for players of their level, to be honest.
