ClutchFans seems to be divided into two camps -- "alarmists" who are angry with the decisions of Houston Rockets management and the "apologists" who justify those decisions.

Just for fun we will label the alarmist camp the Nihilists and the apologist camp the Sycophants.

Which camp are you most closely allied? Why?

    Shoulda gone with Psychrants...

I'm hunkered down in the sycophant camp. I have an opinion on these matters but I spend about .05% of the time, energy, and brain matter that these professionals do on these matters, so I will acquiesce.

    Love Battier. Go Duke.

Nihilists! F*ck me. I mean, say what you like about the tenets of Rockets Sycophantism, Dude, at least it's an ethos.

    Not to nitpick....

But doesn't nihilism mean, basically, the deep, pervasive skepticism that things don't really exist? And isn't a sycophant someone that kisses ass?

Why not just call the camps "Alarmists" and "Apologists?"

    Or "Doomsdayers" and "Pollyannas?"

okay, sorry to be the annoying guy that corrects people for not saying "whom." I do like the spirit of this thread.

In several years of viewing this board, you get to know some of the posters well. Do they know what they are talking about usually (nobody but Dwyer is paid for his opinion) or are they blowing it out their ass. This is the first time I have ever seen this much anger, disappointment, and disillusionment with the Rockets management from Les Alexander down to Jeff van Gundy. I don't mean by the blowhards, but by the most respected posters on the board. Something has to be wrong with what is happening and there is a groundswell of negative feelings arising from people who are usually upbeat and practical.

We are three years into the Yao-TMac era and nothing positive has happened. At best we are where we started and IMO we can not field as good a team as we had 3 years ago.

I'm a fan. I kill them for doing stupid things, but still pray to the god of the hardwood that they will go 82-0 and win it all. I love the game of basketball and I'm a huge fan of the Rockets. Even if I don't like what they do, I can't be totally disillusioned because they are MY team for better or worse.

I've said it before. It's like having a little brother. Sure, I can pick on him and give him a hard time all I like. I'm family. But, if some stranger (or Mavs fan) does it, IT IS ON!

Neither camp. I have major problems with a lot of things the Rockets have done. The problem is there are so many people here off the deep end in negativity about CD, JVG and the Rockets it's hard to discuss it. I would like nothing more than to have a very hard debate about CD & JVG with the "apologists" but that's impossible since 50 posters will chime in blaming JVG for Katrina, world hunger and everything else and ruin the discussion (for me). It's so bad that I end up arguing against the dectractors more than the apologists even though I'm actually a detractor.

    Hope that makes sense.

Agree ... that's why I said "just for fun...." especially since members are disagreeing so much as to management decisions.

And, yes, Crums17, I do have a ninth grade education. But not from this summer.

Are there board members out there questioning whether there is a Plan B?
Are there board members who sound like outright shills?

I do like "doomsdayers" and "pollyannas" though.
