I hate how we always have to have the shot of the parents of the kids who OD'd in EVERY anti drug news piece. And ya it always seemed odd how easy it was to get Xanax in this city..
I saw this and thought it was pretty interesting. It's easy to get Xanax anywhere, not just Houston. What ticks me off is these people are the ones who make getting this medicine for people who actually need it very difficult. Pseudophedrine is pretty much the only oral OTC med I can take that works for nasal congestion but all the meth heads have ruined that as some companies have stopped making products with pseudophedrine and stores stock very limited supplies, if they stock it at all.
If someone wants to kill themselves with pills so be it. Not our problem. Dude was pretending to be in pain in that bit, give him pills, seems fine to me.
It's the drug companies fault they have turn Americans into legal drug hungry fiends. They made xanax for housewives that had to stop drinking.
I used to work in addiction. In their defense, benzos (Xanax, Librium, etc.) inhibit DTs, and make alcohol detox much more tolerable.
Big Pharm may be an easy target, but what they actually provide to the pubic is a good thing. Health care in political terms, lobbying etc. is another animal.
The Feds are really starting to crack down on pain killers. In theory that's a good thing, but docs are now getting too scared to write prescriptions or will severely limit prescriptions. The best of intentions will mean that good people who can use the medications responsibly will have to suffer without their meds.
Didnt we do fine without wide spread pres. pill use? Im not sure how Big Pharm is doing a "good" service for the American people.
I went to a clinic yesterday to get my allergy scripts refilled. I counted five drug reps in the 15 minutes I waited in the waiting room. Big $$$.
the fact of the matter is that these large pharmaceutical companies have the politicians in their back pockets... it's not just pain pills.. it's all sorts of pills.. albeit most of their revenue probably comes from the pain pills... every other commercial you see on tv is advertising some sort of pills.. it's big business and it's not going away anytime soon because the lobbying will continue and these pharm companies will get their drugs out there to the consumers
Pres. pill? I'm not following. I was simply referring to the product itself. Medications can save lives, plain and simple. In the case I was making, alcohol withdrawal can be fatal, and benzos are the drug of choice for this. Govt lobbying, abuse/addiction, over-medicating/over-prescribing....those are other issues vs. what I was commenting on.
This is right up my alley. I actually had a tough time with Xanax not too long ago. They are dangerous. I never needed them, mentally nor psychologically, but I took them recreationally. They are very very hard to get off of because they are so easily accessilble. If you have a doctor who will basically prescribe you anything you ask them to, it`s easy to get hooked. I feel bad for anyone who is having trouble with prescription pills, and I plead with them to get the necessary help to get off. Life is better sober.
I`ve heard people who are addicted to pain pills (hydrocodone, oxycodone) go to methadone clinics, where they get hooked on methadones. It`s just ****ing nuts. All this could take years. First, enjoying the drugs. Then, being addicted to them. Finally, taking years to get off of them and relapsing. People are just better off staying away from these pill mills. Why would anyone want to hurt themselves that way?
This is very true, I had dt's once and was hospitalized and benzos were the only thing that helped. However, Xanax can be extremely addictive if taken recreationally. Something like Klonopin is probably a better way to go if taken sparingly for anxiety/panic attacks along w/ an antidepressant.
Agreed. Due to a pair of back surgeries and a torn rotator cuff, I have nearly constant back and shoulder pain. I take vicodin occasionally to help ease the pain. I never used it recreationally, just as needed. So I go to visit my long time doctor recently, and he cut me off. Why? Not because he was worried about my usage, but because he was worried about the # of scrips he was writing for vicodin. He told me the government was tracking pain medication prescriptions and he didn't want to get "on that list".
What kind of a doctor would cut off a legit patient? Couldn't he just avoid prescribing to other patients who may or may not be legit?
