I know everybody is excited about a professional soccer team moving to Houston next year in 2006. I want to know which name this team will be called. I like the "Hurricanes" because it makes sense and is more related to this city and the team who's moving, the San Jose Earthquakes, also named after a natural disaster. So, this franchise is relocating from a natural disaster town to another natural disaster town. My second favorite nickname is the "Hotshots". I remember we once have an pro indoor soccer team called the Houston Hotshots in the mid-90's. They were a good team led by their star player Paul Dougherty. They reach the 1996 and 1997 CISL championship. "Hurricanes", "Hotshots", and "Real Houston" are my top 3 names for the Houston MLS team.
real houston, fc houston are both solid fallback choices i think, but i like hurricanes, or maybe something space related to go along with the rockets/astros team names.
Everybody? No. Umm. First, we need to tell FC Dallas to change their logo. There is already a "Real" team. I'd be okay with some type of space theme. Houston Apollos Houston Stars Houston Houstonians Houston Mexicos FC HTown Real HTown Club HTown Club Houston Club Mead
Houston Generals Houston Texicans (Now we have a futbol team) Houston soccer ball kicking guys FC Texas
Houston Mosquitos Houston Hurricanes Houston Floodwaters Houston Orange Cones Houston Construction Barriers Houston Heat
It won't be FC Houston, as there is already FC Dallas. Nor will it be Real Houston. Houston Futbol Club would be more likely. HFC has a nice ring to it. They could do as Real Salt Lake did and form a partnership with a European team. How about Arsenal Houston? The Hotshots is a terrible idea. I hated that team (mostly because they didn't take me from the tryouts even though I was on fire that day). Going back to the Apollos (early Houston NASL team name) wouldn't be bad. I also wouldn't mind Dynamos (another former Houston pro team). I think Hurricanes is probably a touchy subject right now and probably won't be considered. Either way, I am excited that Houston is finally getting a team. I think they will do great. I would love to see them get some of the homegrown talent on the team. There is plenty of it in the league. I'll be making the drive in from Austin to see them play as much as possible, especially when Real Salt Lake and Rusty Pierce (a friend and former player from The Woodlands) comes to town.
I'd be offended if it got called Los Tejanos (not that I'm USAian or anything)... Spanish isn't an official language! Then again I'm guessing 1836 would not be good for business and really that's what it's all about.
