If we keep our pick, and he is still on the board, I think we should draft this kid. 4 year senior, super smart, good size, good rebounding instincts, and good midrange shooter with 3 point range. Yeah, he's a little slow footed. But, we need a big to back up Yao and possibly provide some floor spacing and rebounding. I think he makes sense.
I like this kid and think he can play in the league, but I'd be leery of drafting another player with pretty much the same skillset as novak. That being said, Fazekas has two things going for him as an advantage over novak. He's got the size and heft to better defend the PF position, and he has much longer arms which helps him be a better rebounder and defender. He's not the shooter than Steve is, but he's more well-rounded as a player. Fazekas kind of reminds me of a Mehmet Okur, big guy who can shoot from the outside and give you some rebounding.
Not many shooters as good as Novak. But he is so lacking in all other areas. I'm looking at Fazekas as a player that can play both the 4/5 at least on a backup basis. I've really been impressed with his improvements on the glass this year. And although he's not the shooter Novak is, he strikes me as an above average shooter from distance who has post game to boot. The more I see him, the harder it is to believe he may be available in the 20s. I'm having my doubts about Novak. Starting to wonder if he can ever be effective in this league. His strength and size is just too small for the 4 and his quickness is way below average to play 3. There is absolutely no way he can play any other position. He needs to add at least 25 pounds to his upper body to even have a chance to play the 4. And he really needs to add that weight to his chest, shoulders, and arms.......not his gut. Having a hard time seeing it right now.
