hi guys.. i am considering moving from Los Angeles to Houston. I am an entrepreneur and travel a ton which gives me the freedom to live anywhere.
LA has gotten a bit old for me so would like a change of pace.

What are some of the nice areas to look moving into? i would like a really nice neighborhood/good real estate investment and something not too far from the airport. Also, what are teh range of prices.

    thx

Depends where you want to live. There are many nice suburbs, or do you want to live inside the city? Like DT etc.

    There's Sugarland, Pearland, etc....

It depends on what you are looking for. I live in The Woodlands and absolutely love it. It is close to the airport (IAH) and has pretty much any and everything that you would want. The schools are good, its very clean, and the area is nice all over. This is just my personal preference but I do not like living in an area where it is nice where you live but a butthole just down the street. I really like having nice all around me and I think The Woodlands may be the only area in Houston that is like that. I know I am going to get flamed because most of the people on the board really like being in the city. I've never understood why the north side never gets any love. I personally don't see why there is the love affair with the south side (i.e. Sugarland, etc.).

Harwin Rd area - Excellent family friendly area.
Longpoint Rd area - Another jewel!
Wayside - Great place to raise a family.
South Main St. - Lot's of charm there.
Telephone Rd - Almost like a country club!

If you can afford it, go for River Oaks or West U.

West U. is nice. Memorial area is rated higher than River Oaks though. Only problem with Memorial, is there is a heavy thoroughfare running through each neighborhood. West U. is nice, but homes are close to each other.

I grew up in the Memorial area, so I'm partial to it. But, as Mr. Brightside pointed out, traffic can be heavy, especially with I-10 being such a mess.

The 3rd Ward is quite nice. I would look into that. I think the other posters are being immature and not giving good advice. I took a drive through River Oaks the other day, and here are some pictures I took from my car window. It's not the place a man of your such wealth should be investing in.

I grew up in Bellaire. The location is great but property values are just skyrocketing and these real estate companies just keep eating up land to build million dollar homes. Although there are still affordable houses inside 610.

Yea they're definitely a hassle but when you go out of town they do patrol near your house and make sure everything is safe and generally they're helpful if you need anything from them.

Unless you are involved with the Oil Business or have family here there is no reason for you to choose Houston. First off you will die in the summer. There is not a lot of culture, the beaches aren't pretty, it's flat and spread out.

I think most of us here would say, if you want to live in Texas move to Austin(it's hot too but worth it) That does mean you'll have to change planes to go most places but...

If you just have to live in Houston, The Woodlands is a satellite city but more focused on a quality of life. In town, live close to the Galleria to put you where the action is.
