The Penguin house at Seaworld, La Mansion Hotel on the River Walk (four stars), Sipping umbrella drinks in the manmade river at the Hyatt Hill Country Resort, I can't remember the name but there is a German Steakhouse by La Mansion that is outstanding, The Japanese Gardens in Breckenridge Park, #12 Tee Box at La Cantera....
There are great hotels on the Riverwalk. Get one with a balcony. I'm blanking out right now, so the only one I can think of is the Hyatt, but I know there are better ones. That sounds like a great idea for a weekend! San Antonio is great, although I get lost every time I go there. Too many of the streets used to be goat trails or something.
The Watermark.......and see about an in room massage for the two of you (two portable tables; two massage therapists). They also have a rose petal turn down service in one of their packages.
When my wife and I visit San Antonio, we stay at the Bonner Gardens Bed and Breakfast. Beautiful old neighborhood, fantastic owners and only five minutes to downtown San Antonio. Rates are pretty reasonable, as well. http://www.bonnergarden.com/ Hope you guys have a blast!
TRUST ME ON THIS ONE. for cocktails, go to "Cohiba". it's in the basement of the Havana Riverwalk Inn on 1015 Navarro (downtown). It's been there for over 100 years, i believe, and is set up like an old cigar club. they refuse to advertise the place, because they do not want the touristy crowds and trendy crowds to flood the place. it's quaint, yet has enough nook, crannies, and alcoves to accomodate you and your guest. it is, by my description, the "muse" of all clubs/lounges. they're closed on sunday nights, so don't go then. in fact, the hotel is pretty sweet, too. i think it's around $150 or so per night. drinks there are a little more expensive than normal, but not exorbitant. in fact, do yourself a favor: if stacy (guy) is working, which he usually is, have him make your girl a "flirtini" it is E.X.C.E.L.L.E.N.T. she will love you for it. don't go somewhere else and order it. it will be g-a-r-b-a-g-e. get it at cohiba from stacy. you will not regret it. the chocolate martini's are pretty damn outstanding, too. it's rarely crowded (except when they have a wedding reception there, which only happens about once every two months), so if you're looking for a wild party, don't go. but if you're looking for a place with great drinks, cozy atmosphere, etc., go there. thank me for it when you come back...or, hell, you might even see me there!
as a matter of fact, Icehouse, i need to take my girl out soon. we've kind of been on the rocks lately, so if she doesn't work this w/e, we'd be glad to meet y'all out there. first round's on us......
My wife and I stayed at the Westin hotel back in August. It was at the edge of the riverwalk so it wasn't loud at night but still within walking distance of everything on the riverwalk. The rooms were extremely clean, friendly staff, nice little bar inside, and great drinks out by the pool. The restaurant at the hotel was also outstanding. More on the expensive side, but very nice. My wife loved the food.
There is an AWESOME restaurant called "Old Heidelburg" on San Felipe. Best German food ever! It's a small little place, and not terribly romantic, but it can make up for it by being one of the best restaurants in the city.
I have heard of this place although I haven't been there myself. It is supposed to be an extremely classly bar/lounge. You may want to try Zinc as well. It is downtown next to the Southbank.
good news: yep. bad news: dumped her last night... either way, i'll probably head out there with a date. you can email me at traceywjones@hotmail.com. let me know when you'll be out there.
zinc (on presa street) is very nice. try the prickly pear margaritas. mmm mmm. and the food is damn good. especially the lamb. if you ever go there, ask the bar manager (peter) if he'll give you a tour of the place...particularly the cellar. very nice. one thing i've always liked about zinc is the mixed crowds. on a friday night @ 11pm or so, you'll have people in suits, people in uniforms (just got off of work), and regular joes all mixing and mingling. oh, and the women are, um, nice. that said, the place in san antonio with the absolute best men/women ratio is broadway bar. the crowd is mid 20s to mid thirties, not very pretentious, and everyone's real friendly. no kidding, on a normal night, it's usually 50:50 ratio...sometimes there'll be more women than men. one altrusim...almost every woman in their is either a) single; or b) with two or three girlfriends that are single.
