    Is that a Mavericks mascot?

I see Yao, Howard, and three other brothers.

Good God. Is the guy in front of Yao (T-mac?) supposed to be in blackface makeup or what? Man, those Chinese cartoons are always pretty wierd.

They probably just looked up "maverick" and went with the cowboy definition that it is a cow that wanders off from the herd. You'd think the horse logo on the uniforms and center court is pretty clear though.

    mav·er·ick [ mávvərik, mávvrik ] (plural mav·er·icks)

    noun

    1. independent person: somebody who holds independent views and who refuses to conform to the accepted or orthodox thinking on a subject

    2. agriculture unbranded animal: an unbranded animal, especially a calf that has become separated from its mother and herd. By convention, it can become the property of whoever finds it and brands it.

[Mid-19th century. Origin uncertain: probably named for Samuel Augustus Maverick (1803–1870), a Texas cattle owner who did not brand some of his calves.]

The Mavericks are called the "xiao niu dui", or, literally:"team of little cows/bulls". (There's no separate word for male or female animals of the species in Chinese.)

The caption basically says, a group of red-clothed heroes whooped up on a hyper-active little cow.

does anyone else associate the cow definition with the Dallas Mavericks??? i don't. i'm thinking cowboy...which fits in well with the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Rangers, up there.

Why does the light-skinned 'Rocket' only have a little stick with a piece of string tied to the end?

Upon further review, I think it's his cane, used to support his emaciated right thigh. I've yet to figure out the piece of string.
