Interesting that the only quotes in the articles from lawmakers also happen to be from lawmakers who have done everything in their power to keep light rail from being built in Houston. Metro should know better than to submit ANYTHING that is even the slightest bit sketchy given people like DeLay and Culberson who seem to be obsessed with never allowing light rail to be built in Houston. In this instance, Metro should have gone over everything twice and included them in the discussion if they wanted to ensure safe passage by the FTA. That's a dumb move. But, representatives from YOUR district are supposed to HELP in getting things passed, not hinder them simply because they don't like them, especially given the successful referendum last fall. I'm guessing if this was one of their pet projects, we would have never heard a peep of a problem from anyone. The whole thing sucks.
It is truly no surprise that the people who supported this project are unable to fill out a standard request form.
Tom Delay is a suspicious character in his opposition to Light rail. Why is he so opposed to it. It will be viable and an economic benefit to HOuston. Easy access around town is an amenity to attract tourists as well as for our enjoyment.
He's opposed to it because he recognizes that it's not worth the money invested in it to provide tourists and pleasure seekers a futuristic ride around town.
Why do Metro-related stories ever even start in the Hangout? Everyone knows where the thread is heading before they even post it...
Despite the fact that voters overwhelmingly accepted it AND he stated in public that he would put his full weight behind supporting it as a result.
A vote is no indication of the financial merits of a project. This is especially true when the proponents of the bills did their best to avoid going into financials every chance they got. You, Jeff, could never articulate a case for the finacial viability of the project. You avoided it every time. You did that because their is no case for it. If there were, you would have trotted it out.
Well, I am unfortunately banned from the D&D, so I couldn't very well post it there. Besides, I didn't post this as an intro to yet another pro/con light rail debate. I posted it to show you the incredible, undeniable, pathetic stupidity of Metro's administration. This isn't something even open to debate. Corruption, fiscal irresponsibilty, and ignorance have been synonymous with Metro for the better part of the last decade. These are the people we pay billions in taxes to? For what? Hell, I know people who work at Metro who say the same things. Who cannot stand Wolff, & think he and his sorry ass predecessor have ruined the organization. You don't entrust billions to build something to help make us a "world class city" to these buffoons...
