What's the latest on Les Alexander or someone else bringing an NHL team to Houston? Are the Penguins a possibility?
i've been updating this thread as i learn about new information: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=104014&highlight=hockey
When push comes to shove the city will do whatever it takes to keep the Penguins. .........at least I hope. How does this trade sounds: I'll trade you the Penguins for the Rockets?
I'd be on that season ticket list...i wish the Devils would move down here...I miss going to their games.
If ANY NHL team is going to relocate here, it will be the Oilers. I'd go just so I can say "I went to a Houston Oilers game!" again....
Hockey is a GREAT sport. My favorite team is the Flyers 'cause I got interested in hockey when I was living near Philly. I don't wish for them to move down here but I sure do hope Houston gets a team.
i can't begin to tell you how much i would love that. i love their logo and their colors. i find myself rooting for them a lot because they seem to be matched up in the first round against the stars a lot.
The lease allows them to entertain offers to be sold and moved as of June 2006. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pittsburgh_Penguins Various reports have the Penguins in dire financial straits even after the lockout. Lemieux himself has stated that it is doubtful that the club will remain in Pittsburgh once the lease is up. A most recent arena proposal includes a partnership with Isle of Capri Casinos Inc. - a gambling company intending to install slot machines. The project cost is estimated at $290 million. The arena is part of a proposed $1 billion development financed by Nationwide Realty. If an arena is not built, rumors suggest that the team will move to Kansas City, Houston, Las Vegas, or Portland.
Les always said they were going to wait until after the labor issues were settled. It would seem like prices are at an all time low.
I have been a Penguin fan since I started paying attention (not too much) to the NHL in the early 90's. So it would be awesome if they came to my city. Plus, the fact they have Sidney Crawford as a major draw would help ticket sales. But as an ex-oiler fan and huge bud hater, nothing would please me more to get the Houston Oilers back in town. I wouldn't have to buy new gear and we already have a lame song for them to play during games to get on our nerves. So to me getting either the Oilers or the Penguins is a win/win situation. After that, get a AFL team and name them the 1836 and were done!
