Patrick Stefan not only missed the net on an empty net breakaway opportunity, but he also turned the puck over which led directly to a tying goal for the Edmonton Oilers with two seconds left in the game.

Fortunately (for Stefan), the Stars won the game in the shootout.

Yeah I caught the highlights for that game right in the middle and was a bit confused as to what had happened. It seemed like he had missed the wide open net and then the other team sent it to overtime but then I told myself "no way, must have been something else...that's impossible".

    :D

    Fortunately, Stefan is not Columbian.

LOL - what's even more ridiculous is the fact that this guy was drafted first overall couple of years ago!

How many times have you seen people miss breakaway layups in basketball? Way too many.

Yeah, but with the game on the line when there's less than 10 seconds left and leading directly to the other team tying the game to send it to overtime? (also note that a hockey net is usually protected by a goalie - a basketball net is not)

I was wondering what happened. I had been watching the third period before playing poker and stopped watching with a minute left and Dallas up 5-4. I look up a little bit later and it's in OT.

The Stars' 5th goal was badass, though.

    Are we really surprised?

    (Dallas sucks at life)

Scoring is rarer in hockey than in basketball. Thus it would be reasoned that the hockey player would be more careful when given the chance to score.

how many people would miss breakaway layups in basketball if the goal was 4 feet high and 5 feet wide and the ball was the size of a golf ball? (all estimates as i do not follow hockey)

How hard would basketball be if you had to play it on roller skates?
