NFL wins stay, making Clarett ineligible for draft RB may be able to enter supplemental draft INDIANAPOLIS - Maurice Clarett was barred from entering the NFL draft by a federal appeals court that blocked a lower court ruling Monday. advertisement The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said the NFL had demonstrated a “likelihood of success on the merits” of its argument that Clarett and other young athletes should not be permitted to enter the league prematurely. Southern California wide receiver Mike Williams also is covered by the ruling. The draft is Saturday and Sunday. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4725498/
if that is the case, wouldnt i be hearing about this all over espn? all those other players such as fitzgerald and williams wouldnt be elgible as well right?
so what does clarett do? what exactly is the supplemental draft? can he even go back to college if that doesn't happen? i was in favor of not letting people come out early but how can they block the guys a week before the draft after they're already in. it seems like it would've only applied to future drafts. dammit now usc is gonna get to keep williams.
No, Williams is ineligible to ever play college football again. Once you hire an agent that is it. This still isn't decided yet...all that happened was that the courts issued a stay until they make their decision. From what I read the underclassmen could still be in the draft on Saturday. And Fitzgerald had attended a military school or something for a year, so he will still be eligible no matter what happens.
Are you sure about that, I don't know if that had been decided already. I know that was going to be his reasoning.
If everybody just stepped back for a second, looked at themselves in the mirror, they'd let the kid play and be done with it.
Whatever. Look for a Mike Williams rookie card in Topps Draft Picks & Prospects Football, due out next month, regardless. Hey, he signed a General Licensing Agreement, and the league approved our cards. (Plus, the cards have gone to print.) What am I gonna do? Pull him out of the set? (Well, at least Clarett didn't sign his GLA...)
I just heard this...I wonder what it means for Clarrett/MW if it stands...I mean, they both hired agents, so there is no more college for either of them...Interesting...
Milstein said Monday the NFL can't argue that players such as Clarett are not physically ready to play professionally. Williams was considered by some to be a first-round pick; Clarett was expected to be chosen in the later rounds. "The teams are lining up to hire these guys ... because the teams know these players are ready to play," Milstein said. I find this argument persuasive. I don't no how anyone can defend the NFLs policy. They basically threatening an adult's livelihood and an adult's family potential economic security with an arbitrary rule. You can be drafted and go fight in a real war but the NFL won't let you play because they say these kids are not ready?
I was watching ESPN and they were reading off a list of early high school entrants...pretty funny stuff. They had people who's schools didn't even have football teams or people who were 3rd string quarterbacks who hadn't even played yet.
JOTTOMH: -Keeps the importance and impact of the draft in place -Helps maintain a certain level of competition on the field
Bush's jobless recovery strikes again! I think this is a stupid rule. If a player is good enough to be drafted, he has demonstrated his merit.
