There's been a lot of talk about this "strategy" on the Houston airways because of what happened yesterday. Kubiak iced the kicker by calling timeout right before the FG make. The skins kicker subsequently missed the next one. Do you think this should be allowed? Frankly, I don't see how this is any different from calling timeout any other time. As long as the timeout is called before the ball is snapped, you should be allowed to do it.
I don't understand how you'd change the rule? What's so crazy about being able to call timeout whenever you want to call timeout? Just because a kicker is lined up for a FG...they could run a fake...are you going to make the rule be you can't call timeout if you're the defense and there's less than 5 seconds on the play clock for ANY play? I understand the frustration....but I don't understand the alternative.
You are in the NFL where only the best of the best play. If you are not mentally tough enough to kick a field goal because someone called a time out, you deserve to miss it.

Another instance comes to mind, when Jeff Fisher acted like he was going to call a time out against the Texans last year and then didn't which threw Kris Brown off and of course he missed and we lost. I seriously hate the Titans but I thought it was brilliant the way he played the head game and won.
It's fustrating but it is what it is. I would limit the TO to before 5 seconds on the play clock for it to be called.
Timeouts should be allowed to be called whenever as long it's before the ball is snapped or after a play is whistled dead. B2B timeouts; I don't know if there is a rule already for that, but I could understand not allowing a team call B2B timeouts.
uhmmm, I would say defense. If the offense does it, oh well but to avoid the icing the kicker then the "D" should be limited.
it's part of the game. personally, i think it adds to the drama of it all. will he call it? will he not call it? definitely doesn't take away from the game in any way, imo. (and no, not just saying that because my team benefited yesterday)
ok...so here's what we're doing....if a defense lines up...and they see something that confuses them...they're screwed if it's past 5 seconds on the play clock. they can't call timeout. and why? because a timeout might upset a kicker. i think that's being way too soft...and having way too much disproportionate impact elsewhere in the game.
They have done this FOR YEARS...the only difference is that now it is later in the play clock. Teams have tried to ice kickers forever.... DD
It could also blow up in your face. I watched the Utah-Pitt game earlier this year, and Pitt actually missed the FG but the Utah coach called TO so he got a 2nd chance. The Pitt kicker made it on his 2nd attempt, and sent the game into OT.
