While Packers quarterback Brett Favre is pondering whether to return, the Houston Texans met the asking price of Favre's longtime center, Mike Flanagan. The Texans reached agreement with Flanagan on a three-year deal worth approximately $9 million http://www.nfl.com/nflnetwork/story/9331877 Finally we pick a good lineman. He made the Pro Bowl in 2003. The line should be something like this next year. LT-Chester Pitts LG-Steve McKinney C-Mike Flanagan RG-Zach Wiegert RT-? I still think will cut Todd Wade. He doesn't fit a typical Kubiak style lineman.
I'm beside myself--the Texans addressed the OL in the freaking offseason? What next, are the Astros going to go the World Series??
Good signing with Flanagan. On Wade. I'm not sure, but I believe if the Texans cut Wade they take an exhilarated cap hit which would limit the money they can spend this offseason. Bascially, it would be better to let him ride the bench this year, and cut him next season.
Good signing for the Texans. I wouldn't be surpirsed if we took Jonathon Scott in the third and had him play RT.
Well, we brought in Stephen Neal and Tom Ashworth of the Patriots and Seth McKinney of the Dolphins, but all decided to sign elsewhere. It's not easy to sign quality free agents, without over paying, when you suck.
I doubt it, he doesn't fit the zone blocking scheme that Kubiak is going to incorporate. Add to the fact that he's 34, I think the Texans will pass.
This signing makes me happier than the combined signings of Putzier, Cook, and Walter. BTW, Larry Allen signed with the 49ers.
I was thinking maybe the chance to snap to Vince Young was too good to pass up for Flanagan But seriously I'm glad to see the Texans addressing the O-line in the offseason.
http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/printstory.mpl/sports/3745068 Texans, Flanagan OK deal Veteran center's pact for 3 years; Orr, Polk re-sign By MEGAN MANFULL Copyright 2006 Houston Chronicle The Texans bolstered their offensive line by adding veteran center Mike Flanagan on Thursday. Flanagan and the Texans agreed to a deal worth close to $9 million over three years. His arrival likely gives the Texans their new starting center. With four-year starter Steve McKinney moving to left guard, Flanagan is expected to take over the same position he held for most of his 10-year career with the Green Bay Packers. When Flanagan, 6-5 and 301, arrives in Houston, he will be reunited with former Packers coach Mike Sherman. Sherman was an assistant line coach with the Packers from 1997-98, and their head coach from 2000-05. Flanagan and Sherman also spent the 1994 season together when Flanagan was a player at UCLA and Sherman coached the offensive line. Flanagan, 32, has been one of the most respected centers around the NFL when he has been healthy. He was invited to his first Pro Bowl following the 2003 season, but he was hampered by injuries the past two seasons. He missed most of the 2004 season because of tendinitis in his knee. He suffered a sports hernia last season but started all but two games. Before that, he was considered one of the most durable players for the Packers. Until his 2004 season was cut short by tendinitis, Flanagan had started 87 consecutive games, including five postseason contests. The agreement with Flanagan capped a busy day in which the Texans also re-signed linebackers Shantee Orr, DaShon Polk and Frank Chamberlin, and safety Ramon Walker. Orr was an exclusive-rights free agent of the Texans; the others were unrestricted free agents. Orr led the Texans with seven sacks in 12 starts last season. Polk was the Texans' second-leading tackler with 135. He took over at linebacker and started 11 games after Kailee Wong was sidelined with a knee injury. Chamberlin and Walker saw playing time primarily on special teams last season.
