I'm trying to do this in a non-political way. Now, I'll just preface by saying I don't like rush limbaug or his politics. But anyway, I have given hiim the benefit of the doubt for 3 weeks now on NFL countdown, and the verdict is in.....he sucks, they gotta get rid of him. His football knowledge, is, well, pedestrian at best. He displays no more knowledge of football than I see posted on this BBS day in dayy out. His contributions generally consist of "So and so is good!" "So and so is NOT so good" without really saying why and is completely devoid of meaningful analysis. his on show dynamic is awkward at best, he just sort of interrupts every seven minutes, in a stiff way, and makes his inane observation, then he usually gets tooled on by Michael Irvin and therest of the guys laugh at him. It's like the nerdy fat kid being harassed by the jocks. I don't think he'll last the season.
I think he is doing better than Miller because he doesn't get pushed around. You have to be pushy and arrogant to talk with pro ball players about football and he can do that. I disagree, he actually knows quite alot about football. He was a play by play man for the Royals for several years before starting his political talk show and ran a sports show in New York that began before his political show and concurrently for a while.
Addendum: one of Rush's monologues this morning was that "Kansas City just really isn't that good, they just seem like they are, but they're not" and then he picked Houston over KC. Football knowledge? LeG, I think he does get pushed around, Crackhead Michael Irvin frequently mocks him all the time, hell even Brigham young descendant Steve doesn't come to his defense and sides with the Jocks.
He didn't "coach" them there, but he was the coach at the time. He rode Marshall Faulk there, and then shot the horse that took him to the game. Martz is the worst coach in the NFL.
Well, Rush's job title was to be the voice of the "common fan." Seeing as how he regurgitates common barroom drivel and has very little insight, I'd say he's succeeding quite nicely.
Guys, guys, guys....I think the dislike of his politics is leaking over into your opinion of his performance on the show. With me, it is opposite. I feel biased because I like listening to his radio show and while I don't always agree with him, at least he is both entertaining and informative. So we are in the same boat, just different spectrums. You dislike him because you hate his politics, I like him because I like his politics. Either way it is wrong. I have to say he at least has made it interesting and you have to remember, this isn't a serious Xs and Os show. This is fluffy entertainment. Why else would crackhead-now-Christian Michael Irvin be on there?
Michael knows what he's talking about. Does Rush? "New England will be pumped up following the Milloy debacle and crush Buffalo." Everyone else on the panel (ex-players) told him that it doesn't work that way. But him being so full of himself, he just wouldn't listen. Or how about him predicting the Texans beating the Chiefs? Or Rush implying that a passing team (using Pitt last year as an example) could easily beat the Bucs. He failed to mention the #1 passing team in the league last year that the Bucs punk'd in the SuperBowl. Michael was quick to point that out to him. He was left speechless, once again. Rush seems like more of the "crackhead" to me. He sounds like Peter Vescey. Just throw a bunch of BS out there and one of these days something'll come true.
The format is kinda weird, with Rush on his little island over there looking like he just wants to be one of the guys, and the guys looking back like they wish he would just shut the hell up.
Rich and Charlie was talking about how much Frank Caliendo sucked on Fox today, how bad his picks are, and even said that one of the guys, I think Terry, made a comment like he must be married to the executive producer of Fox sports.
From what I've seen so far, Caliendo can't hold Kimmel's jock strap. I've actually stopped watching FOX's pregame show now. I sincerely miss Jillian Barbarie's outfits.
I've stoped completely myself. I watch ESPN's complete two hour show and get so much more information and not near the fluf bull****.
My sincere recommendation to everyone here is to stop watching pregame shows entirely. I mean, the games are the interesting part, right? Hell, build a sandwich, go for a jog, play with your kids, read a book, anything. It's all got to be better than those heinous pregame shows.
No crap B-Bob, I mean, if you watch the 11, 3, and ESPN game, you've spent your whole Sunday already, I used to do this religiously for about two years, and even though I went jogging on Sunday mornings, it still amazes me how much time I wasted watching football, and to watch the pre-game shows is just over kill. Personally, I only watch the pre-game if they mention a story I want to see in the previews.
I caught a little bit of ESPN's pre-game show yesterday and it was funny to see Michael Irvin biyotch-slap Rush down about beating the Bucs by passing the ball in bringing up the Super Bowl. I couldn't get over how much weight Limbaugh had lost. He looked like he had aged 20 years since the last time I saw him on television (which in fairness had to be like 10 years ago).
I started a thread about these shows on opening day. I usually watch ESPN's but I'm usually doing something else while watching it like cleaning the kitchen or doing laundry. I agree with AstroRocket about Rush. It has a weird vibe to it with him on the other side of the studio all by himself. It's just odd. I do like when ESPN breaks down film. They do that better than the other shows. Fox is all style no substance. And their "style" is so contrived it's not even funny. Am I the only one who thinks Jimmy Kimmell is overrated. I just don't think he's funny. CBS is no style, no substance....
Didn't really want to start a thread about this, but is it me or is Sean Salisbury a huge ******* now? He has been at ESPN for 7 years and never remembered him being like this until now. Seeing him go against John Clayton on things is funny in a masochistic type way (although I am sure that ESPN enjoys him acting like an ass).
