If it is now being said Wade has not been contacted. . . .
and Kubiak gets to hire who he wants . . . .

    Who are we looking at?

    What are the Criteria?

If you are a TOP NOTCH DC . . . why would you come to the Texans?

    Who is out there anyway
    Marivn Lewis
    John Fox
    Wade Phillips

    Who else?

Gruden is an offensive guru, not happening.

Uh, Jon Gruden is an offensive mind. He's considered to be an expert on the West Coast offense. He never has, nor ever will be, a defensive person. Those Tampa Bay defenses were built by Tony Dungy and Monte Kiffin.

If Rob Ryan isn't part of the new regime in Cleveland and doesn't get a HC job, he should be an obvious option. Might be a long shot but who knows.

Kubiak would have to look over his shoulders non-stop if he hired him, that's why it was a bad move on McNair letting Kubiak decide who would be hired. Ryan would be the perfect guy you could go with as a mid-season HC replacement if the Texans got off to a slow start next year.

Come on, who really believes that McNair would fire a coach mid season under any circumstances?

Which is kind of Troubling. The question becomes . . .
What makes the Texans job an Attractive one?

I'm not calling anyone out but where are you getting this new information on Phillips not being contacted for the DC job? Source please.

Kubiak said in his presser that they haven't contacted Phillips but he plans on talking to him soon.

But we could make him the HC and let him find a DC... :p

Seriously though. I'm sure it's Wade Phillips or some guy we've never heard of. You can't have anyone whom the fans might want to turn into a head coach next year. Got to make sure Kubiak's not working with pressure.

I think what he meant was that he hasn't personally spoken to Phillips but now that Bob McNair has decided not to can his ass, he is going to make the phone call tonight. The move to Phillips is an order from the top, Kubiak is only happy to comply and keep his job for another year. The whole interview stipulation is just smoke to make the fans feel like proper steps were taken to find the best solution. Wade Phillips has his eyes set on the Texans head coaching job and will gladly oblige to any request by Kubiak or McNair. I promise you by this time next year, Wade Phillips is going to be the Texans interim head coach. Quote me on it in your sig or whatever but I will stand by my prediction.

McNair seems to have given Kubiak a set list of rules to play under in his search. Kubiak's "free" to hire "whoever he wants"...so long as it's a serious guy with a real resume. No buddy system allowed. New DC gets to pick the staff and players, not Smith or Kubiak.

Kubiak probably will avoid those with head coaching ambitions, I'm guessing the call to Phillips was a direct order. My bet is that he goes with an older guy that's given up on running the show (a la Capers).

Kubiak also said in his presser today that they're going to go get the players the DC deems necessary to run his scheme and be successful. I think Kubiak, granted a reprieve, knows he has to get this right and the owner has given him the assurances that they'll go get whomever is needed.

During the presser, I BELIEVE he said they would look for an experienced DC with head coaching experience as well.

I've had this name in the back of my for quite some time now, Dick LeBeau. Yeah, that is not possible. LeBeau would never leave the Steelers. He didn't even want the job after Cowher left so they hired Tomlin with his blessings. Still, I would love to see a legend like him coach our defense and make us an elite unit. Just a dream.
