EA is doing for NBA Live 2006 what they did for Madden 2006 it seems. Starting today, they will give us a screen of the game up until the day of the NBA draft, where they'll show a commercial for the game:

I know that hardly anyone here really watches the NBA draft since it really has no impact on any of our lives, but it may be a good idea to check it out just this once. ;)

Oh, I almost forgot to post the screen. Here you go:

all those screen caps are always such bogus nonsense.. the gameplay never actually looks like that.

I'm not trying to be a negative nancy.. but we go through this every year.. awesome screen caps that turn out to be clips from some simulated video footage and not actual gameplay.

Any makeover to the Live series will be OPENLY accepted from me..

I don't see why you couldn't get something like that from the game, although I will say that particular angle is a little misleading (you'd only get that type of closeup in a cutscene such as a timeout). But going by the realtime video clips of other next-gen games (UT2K7, Gears of War, Huxley, TES:IV, Fight Night:Round 3), I'm sure there is enough power to get that type of detail. In fact, there was a clip of this game in motion around E3 and it looked REALLY good (similar to this, IMO, although not closeup).

Plus, I'm sure EA's got the most advanced devkits available, so they probably have the most power to work with. Hopefully, this won't be a recap of the Madden situation earlier in the year since they do have the advantage of better hardware this time around. I don't see why we couldn't get something a little more like gameplay this time around, which would be more stunning, IMO, than some closeup of Rasheed's bald spot.

So the power is there for EA to put out a product that looks as stunning as this, IMO. Whether or not it turns out that way, we'll have to wait and see.

edit: here's some pics to the clip I was talking about:

If I can remember where I found the video, I might post that link as well, although it was all in HD, so it was a big download.

I watched the video on EA's website, seems like only significant improvement is the graphic (EA is catching on with the ESPN series). As far as animation, the showboats are back, and they acutally has a dunk on animation.

If you and I are thinking of the same video, I think that one is actually from the current-gen NBA Live 2006, not the next-gen one. Is it from this page?
    http://www.easports.com/games/nbalive06/videos.jsp

If so, it would make sense that it was not that improved in all areas, although you are right about the improvement in graphics. I found a link for what I think is the video I was talking about, but I think it is a little different than what I have (don't feel like downloading it, but there is a filesize difference). You can check it out here:
    http://www.kikizo.com/viewer/vidview_games.asp?games/e32005/kikizo_ea_xbox360_gamemontage_0_hd.wmv
http://games.kikizo.com/features/e32005videos.asp (clips of the other versions of the EA clip, plus tons of other E3 footage)

BTW, it just occurred to me that I will be going on a week long vacation with some friends and family starting later today, and I'll most likely be away from a computer. So you guys will have to take it from here. The commercial during the NBA draft is the only thing that I'll really get a chance to see, and I won't be able to comment on it until maybe next Friday or so. So just leave your impressions here and I'll give mine in a week or so and address any points that might be brought up if I can.
