Wow. This is definitely shocking news. Two players, one of whom is Rhett Bomar, were kicked off the team today for getting paid for hours not worked during a summer job. Bomar was the nation's top-QB recruit just two years ago. I was looking forward to Brian Robison blasting him a few more times this year.

    Bomar off OU football team

    From Staff and Wire Reports

Oklahoma football coach Bob Stoops says he's dismissing two players from the Sooner football team. A news release from OU does not name the players, but News 9 sports director Dean Blevins says one player is starting quarterback Rhett Bomar.

The release says an investigation by the university found the two players were paid to work at a private business and were paid for hours they didn't work.

OU said the two are being permanently dismissed and will not be allowed to return to the team at any time.

OU athletic director Joe Castiglione says he's disappointed in the athletes and university President David Boren says he believes Stoops is doing the right thing and he strongly supports the coach.

Looks like OU topped UT. I thought losing Romance Taylor was bad, but I'm willing to say this is worse.

OU always has to top UT, nice job Sooners

wow, but honestly I would risk my season behind bomar. the only thing that sucks is he started to improve so this will set them back some.

For what it's worth, I never thought this guy was that good anyway. He's certainly talented, but seemed to overthrow or underthrow way too many easy passes. Also, he would frequently get killed trying to run the ball.

I guess this means that Paul Thompson will be back at QB for the Sooners. The only other QBs on campus are transfer Joey Halzle and walk-on, Hays McEachern. Personally I think Thompson's more dangerous with the scrambling threat that he brings to the table.

I wonder if UT would open a spot for him... I'm not too comfortable with UT's QB situation this year.

However bad Bohmar throwed it was a hell of alot better than the floating wobbles PT throws. As for his running threat look for opposing teams to load up the box indefinetly.

Bad OL + Below Average QB = another bad year for OU.

Oh ya, guess who the other guy involved is: JD Quinn, an offensive lineman! This could end up being a total disaster for OU.

This sets the Sooners back a couple years. I guess we'll see Thompson back at QB next season.

Baqui- While Bomar didn't show much last season, he was playing behind a pretty bad OL. Supposedly, the other dismissed player was a offensive lineman so this could be even a bigger setback.

The NCAA should really take a deeper look at the "behind the scenes" of OU athletics. Their basketball program has been notoriously known for giving extra benefits and Sampson just received a slap on the wrist for making extra calls to recruits. There were questions about Peterson's brand new Lexus and not Bomar gets caught. UT has had their share of issues as well but OU has had quite a bit of problems the last couple years.

I can't believe something like this could happen at OU.

    Sincerely,

That’s just great…..I see a new recruit for Texas College in Tyler. Image the backfield with Rhett Bomar and Romance Taylor! I smell a title.

Good for Stoops in upholding the rules and getting rid of these guys.

This reminds me of the incident with the UT-Austin baseball team back in 2002 when they were found to have hooked up an unpaid assistant coach with one of these similar type jobs. Of course, UT won the college baseball national championship* that year, but who really cares about such trivial matters, anyway? Glad to see that OU has stepped in an corrected this situation.

    * they received a violation termed as "major" by the NCAA for this

Did the paid volunteer coach gun down Sinisi at the plate? I must have missed his on field impact.

Unpaid volunteer coaches don't help a team perform on field? Why have them?

Glad to see they took action. It'll weaken the team some, but if rules were violated they should be kicked off the team.

These 2 were apparently working at the same dealership involved in the AD affair.
