Oklahoma City hosted two NBA preseason games in 1994 at what was then the Myriad. In the first game on Oct. 16, Charles Barkley scored 26 points in Phoenix's win over Detroit in front of a sellout crowd of 14,130.

What happened eight days later made national news. Coming off their first NBA title, the Houston Rockets defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers and Rockets point guard Vernon Maxwell "threw a punch" at Chris Mills.

Speculation was Maxwell might be suspended for the regular season opener in Houston, a night players would receive their championship rings. It didn't happen. League officials fined Maxwell $3,500 for a "flagrant forearm."
