    Buyout For Francis?
Jul 1 - When asked after Thursday's draft if Steve Francis would ever suit up for the Blazers, Kevin Pritchard said he wanted to "meet" Francis and "get to know him" before passing judgment.
"We're excited about having him," Pritchard said Friday.

But a source with knowledge of the situation has said he can't imagine Francis wearing a Blazers uniform, furthering speculation that the Blazers will buy out Francis' contact. -- The Oregonian

A Francis rep met yesterday with Portland officials, and it appears possible that he either will be bought out or traded. The Lakers, Clippers, Cavs, Rockets and Heat are likely destinations. -- Newsday

    I'll take Francis.

So what, we have 7 guards, only one of them is proven, the rest are trash or just have "potential", which doesn't take us anywheres this year.

I'll take Francis at the 2 guard all day long.

Francis > Alston, Head, Snyder, VSpan, JL3, Brooks

He and Mike James are comprable.

And there is no way we keep all those guards. My gut says Head, JL3 are gone for sure. VSpan may find the door too.

So we have James, Alston, Brooks at the point and Francis, Snyder at the 2 guard. I'll take that in a heartbeat!

We should pick up steve if we have left over cash. 7 guards? There has to be one out out of the lot that is decent.

If they could find a away to get francis, it would be a HUGE upgrade for the bench from last year.

    Francis/James/Brooks/Span
    Tmac/Snyder/whoever isnt traded
    Battier/Bonzi/Novak
    (Head+Sura+Rafer+JLIII)/Hayes/Landry
    Yao/Deke

I think that looks pretty good.

I wonder if Portland looked at tapes of him post feeding Hakeem, Yao, Dwight Howard, and Eddy Curry and thought of Oden being post fed by him?

If not, they might keep him. If they did, I bet he will be available for Houston.

Unless there is a link, I doubt he is willing to play for so little. If he is bought out he will get MLE offers from teams like Cleveland, Miami who need a point guard.

I think he would take slightly less than the MLE to come back to Houston. He is worth the MLE, Houston could spend it on him. The PF will only come through a trade.

Portland was never interested in keeping Francis, they needed to get rid of Randolph and Pritchard was supposedly very high on Channing Frye.

    a number of reasons...

    Here are a few:
Rafer Alston wide open three......hits nothing but backboard....
    Rafer Alston wide open two..........brick
Rafer Alston with the ball and defended closely at the three point line....drives in only to shoot a floater...he never takes it to the basket. he takes it halfway to the basket and thats it...

I'm not saying steve is a better 3pt shooter, but I think he knows that. He wont fire up 9 threes in one game. Steve can take it the basket and actually get to the line when you're desperate...

If Francis is back, my guess is Rafer is out... Adelman wants his PG to be more of a scoring threat, which Francis and Mike James are, and Rafer is not.

I'm thinking it may be possible to trade Rafer to Orlando. Carlo Arroyo and Jameer Nelson have both been inconsistent this year, and Stan Van Gundy knows Rafer well. He can be an effective caretaker-type backup PG for Stan.

For that matter, I'd think Miami could use Rafer, too... he plays a lot like Jason Williams, except he is more durable.
