Don't focus on the meaning of the songs (Christian music--since I know some of you will bash it just for that) What do you think about the music? GREAT or TERRIBLE? I love the newsboys but i'm a little biased. I do like david crowder band and kutless a little better though.
Been a Newsboys fan for years. They're unique and they know how to put on a really fun show. Revolving drum stage, spacesuits, wicked light shows, catchy songs ... you can't appreciate how good these guys are unless you've actually been to one of their concerts.
David Crowder band is good, I haven't heard much of Kutless. Best Christian rock group out right now has to be MercyMe followed closely in second by Casting Crowns. But I will say Newsboys has a wide variety of songs that appeal to me.
Robbie Seay Band rules all. Seriously, though...they do. The quality of their music far surpasses anything I've ever heard from traditional Christian bands. I don't like the whole "Christian band" label, anyway. But that's for another thread, I suppose.
Oh, I love these guys. "Dreams come true, yes they do, in SANTA FEEEEEEEEE" wait, I'm thinking of Newsies the musical.
For the thread starters sake, I hope MR MEOWGI doesn't see this thread. Anyway, I sometimes see these bands late at night during weekends on these Christian channels. Most of them are really good musicians with nice catchy songs (I likes me some DC Talk, btw), but while I appreciate and totally respect what they’re trying to do, sometimes it comes off as being a little too conceived for my taste. Just doesn’t feel real to me. Almost like they’re trying too hard, if that makes sense. But whatever. Music is all subjective and that’s just my flea bitten opinion. On a personal note, that drum solo was super cheesy. The rotating drum riser jumped the shark many years ago.
Not to change the subject, but I just watched the DVD of Shane and Shane (Christian music) last night. Very nice.
here's my two cents: i'm a christian. if i were a musician...and i wrote a song about my love for my wife...would it be any less christian? i'm a christian..and i'm an attorney. that has implications. but i'm not a christian attorney. i'm a christian who happens to be an attorney. i don't like when the Church creates its own sub-cultures. i particularly don't like when they do this to avoid engaging the broader culture.
One of by favorite things to do after a late night of drinking is watching Christian Rock videos on tv. But I can't find them anymore. It's been years.
I went to a Baptist high school and we had Chapel every week with bands and praise leaders, etc. They'd always be playing contemporary Christian music before they started. I kind of got into the music, especially the Newsboys. I never got totally into it, but I do have some of their albums as well as some from DC Talk, and Jars of Clay. This was the album (c. 1997) that got me interested in them. <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/F4VFEwYHZiU&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/F4VFEwYHZiU&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object> <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/KSJUeb3fZEE&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/KSJUeb3fZEE&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object> <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/utGKO04E0zw&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/utGKO04E0zw&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
Good post MadMax. Turn up the Mahavishnu Orchestra, Gregorian Chants, U2, Ravi Shankar, Cliff Richard, because Tomorrow Never Knows...
Just what I heard musically... Are you guys serious? That was terrible. The guys voice is just bad. Keep in mind that i'm going off of these vids only as I have never heard of the guys until seeing this thread.
