FOX26 Just reported that Dom Capers told Glenn to seek a trade if possible. Here we go again. I wonder if he can do it with his salary.
Yikes! Glenn was a real good player and character. I thought we could at least use him for 1 more year. If there's a high demand for CB's he could get traded. If not, he'll just get cut and signed, then we get nothing. I could see him contibuting greatly to a playoff caliber team, but Glenn is set to make 4 million with another million in incentives. This is opposed to the fact Sharper would have made a little over 6 million. I think we have alot better chance of trading Glenn then we did Sharper. Anyone have an idea what we need all this extra cap room for? I thought the Orlando Pace deal was dead. Possibly Kyle Turley? It's been reported he's unhappy (when is he not?) with Mike Martz and could be released June 2nd for salary reasons. But i heard he's got a bad back and lost weight. Something's gotta be going on we don't know about. Either way it's sad to see Glenn go. Didn't he restructure his contract so he could stay here? I'll miss his radio show.
What the hell? Why would they wanna get rid of a good veteran like Glenn. They could use all him, Robinson, and Buchanon. Glenn can continue to mentor and teach them in addition to a lot of other positives he brings. And, what the hell do you go and tell him to seek a trade for? Isn't the GM supossed to go work out the trade, what does he have to do with it? I think this is a show of disrespect to Glenn, and I don't like it.
I know changing teams is part of the business, but it can never be fun when you are leaving your home state.. If we do indeed get rid of Glenn, thanks to him for three good years.. Ill always remember him as one of the guys who helped get this franchise going.
Glenn was our 2nd highest player so it has to do with us trying to free up money. I heard Dunta said he had alot of respect for him and learned alot from Glenn. He was an All Pro veteran and the heart of our team. Buchanon would have said the same thing if he got to know him. I would imagine they told Glenn to seek a trade is because the organization has alot of respect for him (as they should) so he can go somewhere he wants too and probably somewhere competitive. Watch him be a Patriot next year playing CB, replacing Troy Brown. If the Texans really wanted to be pricks, they would just trade Glenn wherever they could get the best deal. I really thought the guy would retire here. He was a fan favorite and gave back to the community. But i guess the defensive youth movement is coming in swift and fast. I still don't think anyone can get disrespected as bad as Troy Brown did switching positions for the NE, being underpaid, and losing out on his offensive incentives. Expect a deal to be made not by trading Glenn but picking up someone cut like i said earlier. We're not over the cap, so why act like it. They're making room for someone and he must be pretty good in a needed position with the money we cut from Sharper and Glenn too be.
Well, Glenn is getting paid a lot, so I'm not that suprised that the Texans are trying to get rid of him, same situation as Sharper. As far as players seeking out trades, that is how it is done in the NFL. They let the player find a team they want to go to and then let the teams try to make a deal. Glenn was one of my favorite players, I'm sad that he is going to leave. But Buchannon and Robinson really have a lot of potential as our corners, and they are young and can only get better.
I would hate to see Aaron Glenn go. He still has a couple of good years left in him and he would be a great mentor to Phillip Buchanon. Glenn is the type of guy you want on your team. He was a shining light on our team and our campus when he was at A&M and he built on that as a pro. I wish him the best.
Sad to see Glenn go, but sort of excited to see Buchanon and Dunta play side by side, with Faggins coming in. We have a nice young CB corps, so it's another reason for excitement (the draft didn't really provide any...)
What direction is this team going? It seems to me that there is no clear path in which this team is moving. Many of the moves that this team makes seem to be lateral moves. The early to middle rounds of the drafts in this teams history have been nearly complete failures. Many have made Casserly out to be some sort of football genius, but from my perspective, much of what i've been witness to is mediocre decision making which has ultimately translated into below average success. My biggest problem with Casserly is that he doesnt draft "football" players.
A faster, quicker, younger defense. Sharper, Foreman, Glenn are all being replaced by younger faster players. Wong is moving inside where he'll be faster than Sharper, Foreman, but is being replaced by a faster Peek. Whether or not faster is better than experience is yet to be determined.
That's debatable as to whether or not it will make us any better. But aside from that, I was refering moreso to the direction this team was taking in the draft.
well the d lineman we took is a quick player.. I would not have taken rb in the 3rd.. mathis in the 4th is a really solid pickup especially when many thought 2nd round for him
Did anyone catch the interview with Dom Capers on ESPN yesterday afternoon? It was during their draft coverage, and right after the Texans picked in the 3rd round, but they asked him if we were still in the running to trade for Travis Henry. I was a little surprised as I had not heard anything about this at all. Of course, was in the hospital for two days. But, could this maybe be the reason they are trying to free cap?
Although the initial reports were that Glenn was welcoming Buchanon, I have heard that he was disgruntled with the new aquisition. This may the reason the Texans are allowing him to seek a trade, not because they dont want him, but to give Glenn that flexibility. I dont see it as a big deal. I would love to welcome Glenn back for another year (not more than that) and I wouldnt mind not having him back. I think his skills are eroding very quickly and given his income levels, he just isnt worth it. As far as the defense is concerned, I love the direction we are going. The addition of Travis Johnson is another key piece to the puzzle. Gary Walker's time is slowly coming to an end as well. Our defense is getting younger, faster, and quicker. I like that formula in a 3-4 defense. By the way, for those wondering why we would release Glenn when we are already under the cap... If we cut him now, we can take on all of the cap hit from his bonus this year, since we are under the cap. Therefore, we wouldnt have to worry about the long term effects of the dead money. Now, if we wait until next year, we may not have that same luxury. Basically, if you have bad contracts, the best time to get rid of them are during years that you can afford to do so under the salary cap. This is one of those years. Gary Walker's contract is the worst though...biggest mistake ever.
The draft was a little disspointing to us mainly because we didn't pick up any big names. But I think the Texans did a good job in filling some holes and drafting for the future: 1. Travis Johnson (DT)- The Texans were terrible at rushing the passer last season. Johnson is suppose to be very quick and strong, they say he is the best DT in the draft. Walker and Payne have been very injury prone, so I think this is a good pick. 2. Vernand Morency (RB)- Kinda questionable, didn't see much of a need for a RB so high in the 3rd round. I guess the Texans don't see Wells and Hollings being their backup. 3. Jerome Mathis (WR)- I think this is going to be a steal for the Texans. He ran the fastest 40 in the combine and led the NCAA in kickoff return yards. I think he will be a better 3rd option WR than Bradford. The only thing I think we missed was an offensive lineman. We picked up a C but I don't know much about him. Other than that, I think we had a productive draft.
It is a high price to pay, but we'll see what kind of deal we can get for Glenn. There is a need for skilled CB's right now, hopefully we can get a nice player or high picks for Glenn.
I don't agree with this move. Even though Glenn is not the player he was in NY he can still help this team out with his leadership. Dunta and Phillip can learn so much from Aaron that it can payoff years from now.
Yes i agree that they can learn alot from him..but if it does come down to him leaving we still have a one time great CB in Marcus Coleman that can still teach them a few things about the game...if it's about teaching Coleman can teach as well...Just cause he doesn't play CB anymore doesn't mean he can't teach them little things.
