Contrary to popular belief, there are virtually no Ethnic group conflicts....getting along peacefully and pleasantly. Hope this article will destroy many myths about NYC.
"Ethnic group conflicts....getting along peacefully and pleasantly." That's because everyone's MIXED there, man. Plus, you don't know if some dude is black or Puerto Rican or is married to a Mexican girl or a white lady... and Colombians there look white... I mean, WTF... "who are the ad wizards that came up with this one?" Nah, seriously... how do they compute the "Crime Rate"? Is it "violent crimes" per thousands (or millions)? Is it only thefts, burglaries, assaults, rapes, what? If Lufkin only had like... what, 5 robberies last month... their crime rate is HIGH, no?
Just wait for a major hurricane to plow through New Jersey and they get all the evacuees from Trenton or Newark...
You are actually on to something there. Poverty creates crime. Many parts of New York have become so expensive to live in, it has pushed poorer folks out...and many of the traditionally poorer parts of the city are becoming gentrified as yuppies and old people begin to move in and re-establish old neighborhoods as more upscale.
Since the Guiliani days NY has become a much safer place. With new Mayor Bloomberg crime is still on the decline. Diverse NYers manage to co-exist much more effectively than other cities such as Houston for example, which is also very diverse but yet still very segregated.
Dallas was the most dangerous city in the US in 2005. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/4197441.html Sept. 19, 2006, 6:37AM FBI says Dallas most dangerous large city in 2005 Associated Press NEW YORK -- New York remained the safest of the nation's 10 largest cities in 2005, with about one crime reported for every 37 people, according to FBI statistics. The annual report "shows that our innovative efforts to reduce crime and increase New Yorkers' quality of life are working," Mayor Michael Bloomberg said in a statement Monday after the agency released the figures. The large city with the highest crime rate was Dallas, with about one crime reported for every 12 people. Los Angeles ranked eighth, with about one crime for every 26 people. The number of reported crimes in New York fell 4.3 percent last year, while the number nationwide dropped 1.2 percent. Police statistics show crime in the city has continued to fall this year, down 5.04 percent by Sept. 10 compared with the same period in 2005. The national figures showed that violent crime rose 2.3 percent last year, the first increase since 2001. But in New York City, violent crimes — which include rape, murder, robbery and aggravated assault — fell 1.9 percent.
So now we can just point to this article (and the one from last year) when a-hole Mavrick fan makes fun of Houston as a 'crime-ridden city'. Cool...
