Ok, a call to my New York Rockets fans. I just came back from a year-long travel stint and.. is it just me, or is it impossible to find short-term apt. rentals in the city? Sorry. Just had to vent my frustration. Craig's list is full of flakers, and with requirements like 2 mos deposit and weird postings like 'apt is only available for 2 days out of the week'... it's insane. Ok -- carry on. Anyone else have had bad experiences with trying to rent an apartment?
not sure about you but all i've head were good experiences with craigslist, but short term might be the problem. how short is is?
My daughter moved to Manhattan and used Craig's list to successfully find a short term and long term housing option. In the end there were a number of acceptable opitons to chose from. Though her friend with a much more limited budget did not have as much luck --- I guess it's about what you are willing to spend.
i will debate and discuss this until the end! of course there are good sublets out there... you just have to filter your searches to price range, neighborhood, month by month, etc... I had an easy time finding an 8 week sublet one summer, but that was because it was a school teacher going back home for the summer... dont know how easy it is in January, but there are good deals out there.... make sure you see the apt in person, sign a valid sublease rental contract, and dont send anyone money orders... but you knew that already...
I live in NY, and I'm getting a new apt. and was looking for someone to rent my apt. for the last 3 months of my lease but my land lord said don't worry about it. Missed it by that much, I had been in that apt since 94 and it was real cheap. sorry
I'm looking for something for 3 months, but yeah.. slim pickings. Plus there's that odor ... I didn't know that there were things like sublease agreements. Just went to a $800/month place in Murray Hill and it was roach motel. Combing Brooklyn and Queens now. I guess a lot of people like me are priced out of Manhattan ($800 to $1300/month). [EDIT] Just saw that I posted this in the wrong forum. Mods please close.
There are legal sublets, but the person whose name is on the lease must be in the apt for 1/2 of the lease time. Check the Screen Actors Guild bulletin board at 1515 Broadway 44th fl. Also the Actor Equity board 165 w. 46th 2nd fl. this could be hard to see unless you are a member or know a member who can look at the board for you, but there is always some actor going out of town who wants to sublet.
i've sublet apartments in ny via craigslist before. 70% of those sublets listed on craigslist are b.s...just keep looking and you'll find one....minus the brokers fees
I would never let the room in my apartment to a Muslim. Can't trust them ya know. Dude, if you weren't Muslim, I'd offer you my extra room. Too bad.
