It's 8:57 and Mack Brown still sucks. Dude, seriously. Mack Brown should leave. He had all sorts of opportunity for a great season... Now look what happened.
I started a thread about a week or two back about how Mack should step aside. Many people backed me up, although there were a surprising amount of people that said I was an idiot for wanting to fire a coach who won so much. Well, am I stupid now?! HUH?! Mack Brown cannot win big games. Now it's looking like he can't even win the small ones. Granted, his coordinators play a large part in it, but he's the HEAD coach for a reason. He's supposed to see to it that his players, his team, is ready to play and kick @$$ every single f*cking week. That is all...
Don't look now, but two of our ALL TIME FAVORITES may soon be available for hire.... John Mackovic and Jackie Sherrill
Can we make Matt Stevens part of this too? It's 12:10 and Stevens, the most worthless safety in all of the NFL, most definitely still sucks.
Some of the names being thrown around that I like: Steve Spurrier - Redskins Butch Davis - Browns Mark Richt - Georgia Jeff Tedford - California Mike Bellotti - Oregon Brent Venables - Oklahoma Art Briles - Houston Rob Chudzinski - Miami Nick Saban - LSU names I don't like being thrown around: Pat Hill - Fresno St. Mike Price - Wazzou/Alabama Chuck Amato - NC State Walt Harris - Pitt Dennis Franchione - Texas A&M Rick Neuheisel - Washington
When you say being thrown around, are these people have given some indication they would be available? I have not, but have you been to HornFans since the loss? I wonder if its safe?
Walt Harris would be a nice pickup. He was Ohio State's 1st choice, but he was under contract with Pitt and the Pitt officials would not allow OSU near him during the coachign search. He is a great offensive coach, give him Texas's talent and UT would be in great shape.
The season isn't over yet...is it? There is no denying Mack's skill at bringing in the some of the very best talent in the nation. If he needs new coordinators, then he better well do it sooner than later, but I don't want to give up on someone who can bring in the talent and has been mor successful than any coach we've had in 2 decades. It wasn't that long ago when we were just a little better than mediocre...and for many years. Let's revisit: Akers 1984 7-4-1 1985 8-5 1986 5-6 McWIlliams 1987 7-5 1988 4-7 1989 5-6 1990 10-2 1991 5-6 Mackovic 1992 6-5 1993 5-5-1 1994 8-4 1995 10-2-1 1996 8-5 1997 4-7 Brown 1998 9-3 1999 9-5 2000 9-3 2001 11-2 2002 11-2
No, it is all speculation at this point It is a relief to read Hornfans now as people are realizing Mack Brown isn't who we think he is. I defended the guy, but now I think it may be time to move on.
How many more years do you give Brown if he is still unable to win the Big 12, the national title, or beat OU?
He just had back-to-back 11-2 seasons... This season is not over... I understand the frustrations, but let's keep perspective here. If we need a little tweaking to win it all, you don't decapitate the racehorse. If we fire Mack instead of work with him to fix what needs a little tweaking, we deserve 20 more years of winning 57%, instead of the last 5 years of 77% (or the last 2 of 85%).
When will changes be made? You cannot make changes when you don't believe there is a problem. Mack Brown said he is proud of his assistant coaches. He will never fire Davis or Reece. He will go down with them.
I'm no fan of Davis, but maybe Mack see's both of them as 95% 'there'. Smart/talented people generally get better...
