If you only have one phone and don't talk much, the $30/month prepaid plan with unlimited data and text is still tough to beat. But if you have multiple lines and one or two of them are talk heavy, this new pricing is a slam dunk. For my family, three lines + 6.5GB (includes tethering) is only $80 + $10 + $30 = $120/month + tax. This more than pays for buying unsubsidized phones.

Everyone in my family will be an unrestricted free-agent with T-Mobile in May. There isn't much doubt we'll stay. My son wants a Note 2, I'm waiting on the Motorola X-Phone and my wife will be getting her first smartphone.

T-Mobile is rolling out LTE starting next week.

The failed attempt to merge with AT&T was the best thing that could have happened to T-Mobile and to subscribers in general. Without T-Mobile, the Verizon/AT&T duopoly would run roughshod with impunity.

50+30+10+10 = $100/month for unlimited talk & text. Then add your bucket choice for data (which includes tethering) or the unlimited data for $20.00 (where you can add a bucket choice for tethering).

Correction: I believe $10/month covers lines 3-5. In other words, there is no addition charge for a 4th and 5th line.

    We'll find out next week.

    $120 is nice.

I think I'm paying $150 at the moment and only two of the 4 have internet on the phone its weird.

Do you think all 4 of us would be able to have internet with unlimited text for $120??

They've kinda done this for a few years, but I guess are trying to really push it now. The trade off is you have to pay full price for the phone, but you're under no contract. Works for us since we don't buy the most expensive phones anyways. We get 2 lines, unlimited talk, text and web for a little over a hundred with government discount!

Houston will be one of the launch cities for LTE on Tuesday.

    http://www.androidauthority.com/t-mobile-lte-cities-177038/

On Tuesday, March 26, T-Mobile will flip the switch on its LTE network in seven cities across the US. See the list here.

It took them forever (plus a botched sale attempt to AT&T), but the fine folks at T-Mobile are finally ready to light up their Long Term Evolution network. The grand opening will happen on March 26, and we’ll be accompanied by the official launch of T-Mobile’s new Uncarrier branding and new unsubsidized plans.

While the details of the Uncarrier campaign have been thoroughly leaked already, we didn’t know until now the markets where T-Mobile will first roll out its 4G LTE network. Today, that final mystery has been dispelled, thanks to a report from the guys at TMoNews that lists the seven cities that will get T-Mobile LTE on March 26:

    Las Vegas, NV
    Phoenix, AZ
    San Jose, CA
    Houston, TX
    Washington, DC
    Kansas City, MO
    Baltimore, MD

If you own a Galaxy Note 2 from T-Mo or if you brought your own LTE device to the network, you’ll get to experience high-speed wireless speeds without lifting a finger. Another way to get in is to wait for the launch of the Galaxy S4 or the HTC One, two great LTE handsets slated for release in late April.

We’ve had clues about some of the markets in this list (Las Vegas for instance, since CES in January), but confirmation is always welcomed. Now, all we have to do is wait till Tuesday for the official details.

I like T-Mobile's pricing but their coverage/signal strength isn't that great. I get good reception outside of work but at work my ATT and Verizon colleagues have way better reception.

Well this pretty much nails it. My wife and I will be T-Mobile bound come May. Galaxy S4 still #1 on the wish list, but I'll hold out for the X-Phone announcement.

This is actually kind of ridiculous. Basically $110 buys me two lines unlimited talk+text+data+2.5GB tethering.

Damn I'm getting ripped off it seems. I'm paying $70/month for unlimited everything, single line.

I have the $30 plan. I love the price, but I miss the awesome coverage I had with Verizon.

More facts after playing with T-Mobile's online tool and speaking with a rep on the phone:

    1. The data plans above are per phone line. Lines do not share data. In other words, if you have 3-lines and want > 500MB on each one, you can buy 2GB more for each line at $10/month x3 = $30/month. This is disappointing. You can buy a different amount of monthly data for each line.

    2. The cost of the phones is, of course, quite high. For an S3, it's $70 down + $20/month for 24 months (total $550.00). A Note 2 is $206 + $20 x 24 months ($686.00). An S2 is $37 + $16 x 24 ($421.00).

    3. Yesterday you could have extended your contract 2 years and purchased a subsidized phone. Effective today, that option is gone.

    4. Indeed there is no extra charge for lines 4 & 5 unless you buy extra data. Lines 3-5 are $10/month total for unlimited talk, text & 500MB data.

If you are on the $30 plan, don't talk much and just have one line, stay there. Nothing else comes close. For those of us with families that include a talkative spouse and children, oh well.

Wal-Mart's FamilyMobile (powered by T-Mobile) is only $40 + $35 for each line and is unlimited everything, though appears 3G only, and throttled after 1GB.

No. The new plans don't affect prepaid at all.

They are charging full price for their phones. So if you don't have a phone already. Expect to pay $200 buck for a phone and then another 20 a month for the phone for just about the whole two year contract.

This is why I hope manufacturers follow the Nexus model, selling unsubsidized phones at a very reasonable price, which the Motorola X phone is rumored to be.
