There are two rules that I would like to see invoked: 1) Fouling the last two minutes of the game. I believe basketball is a enjoyable sport to watch because you do not know who is going to win till the game is over. You can have less than 2 seconds and the other team can still win. Now I don't mind an occasional foul in the last two minutes, but its utterly ridiculous to foul a team 10 times straight in hopes to make up a 5 point difference. I think this is very boring and it gives the team that deserves to lose a winning chance. What should be done? I think giving the other team a free extra free throw is a bit too much. (because an occasional foul is not bad) Perhaps giving a two fouls to the person that fouled him? 2) Fast break fouls. This is another thing that pisses me off. When you have Francis or Mobes flying to the basket and some ******* reaches out and fouls him, screwing up an easy two. Its not so bad to foul on a head-to-head confrontation, but I think it should be considered a flagrant foul if its from behind. Not to mention you can injure the person with an unnecessary foul like that. Any other rules that you might want to see come about? ------------------ Im too drunk to walk ... Im driving home!
Isn't a foul from behind in that kind of situation ruled flagrant now? ------------------ Time is a great teacher-- only problem is it kills all its pupils. PowerbizOnline.com
I actually think the NBA should stop changing rules every summer, and should just let the players play the game. I think there's nothing much wrong with the NBA, and I still love the game. Still, I guess that it could be improved. Nothing is perfect... 1.This has been said by someone else, but: Eliminate all those stupid techs. Let guys hang on the rim, slap the back board, and show as much emotion as they please. That makes basketball fun. 2.Eliminate the "superstar call". I'm sick of seeing rookies like Langhi getting thrown to the floor with no whistle, while Kobe would get to the line if someone breathed too hard near him. 3. I support the new 8 second rule, and eliminating the stupid touch fouls. They ruin the flow of the game. 4.LESS TV TIMEOUTS!!!!!! ESPECIALLY ON NATIONAL TV. Just when a game has a sense of motion, and a particular team is gaining momentum, BLEEP! The whistle blows, the horn sounds, and we get a nice 2 minute break. There are too many of those. On NBC, nearly every other whistle leads to a TV timeout. That is ridiculous, and should be limited. 5. Keep illegal defense rules the same, except award a technical on every violation. Eliminate the warning. 6. Bring the shot clock back to 14 after offensive rebounds, not just after whistles. I hate the way teams get offensive boards, and then take almost the full 24 to get their next shot off. 7. Call the fouls that should be called. No makeup calls, no anticipatory calls, just the actual fouls. Stop letting guys like Tim Duncan and Shaq pound a guard inside. Whenever I see the Spurs play, about half their "blocks" are actually fouls. 8. Most importantly, make the calls in crunch time. If there is a foul, call it. Don't swallow your whistles in the last 2 minutes for the sake of fan excitement. MAKE THE CALLS. 9. Not likely to happen, but: Pay the winners more and the losers less. That would increase competition. No more lay-down-and-die jobs by teams like the Bulls and Wizards. 10. I support moving the free-agent signing date to July 1st. ------------------ Hakeem "The Dream" Olajuwon is the greatest player in the history of basketball. Nice Tweak. I especially like number 6. Another complaint I have, but really not that serious. And number 9 would definately increase the intensity in games!!! But just how would you regulate it? ------------------ Im too drunk to walk ... Im driving home!
Well, when the players get contracts, they have two dollar amounts on them. One is the minimum possible pay, which would be paid if the particular team went 0-82. The second would be the maximum possible, if the team went 82-0. Obviously none of those would occur, but the players would be payed on a game-to-game basis. If a player was benched in a particular game, he would receive the minimum. If a player was injured, then he would be payed the maximum for every game missed. The maximum value of the contract is what would count in the salary cap. ------------------ Hakeem "The Dream" Olajuwon is the greatest player in the history of basketball. This would cause some players to sit out longer than necessary when they have injuries like 'sourness' or 'spasms.' Some players wouldn't want to play because they would make more by being injured. ------------------
3) If your name is Karl Malone, you get kicked in the teeth twice at the beginning of each quarter. Any player who "owes one" to Karl will get an extra kick each quarter. ------------------ "I have no regrets except that I wasn't up to keep Randy from getting on that plane." --Ozzy Osbourne on guitarist Randy Rhodes
HERE'S A FREAKING RULE CHANGE! FIRE THE BLOODY REFS, AND HIRE HIGH SCHOOL OFFICIALS! THEY COULD DO A BETTER JOB THAN THIS TRASH OF THE NBA! ------------------ Hakeem "The Dream" Olajuwon is the greatest player in the history of basketball. If you disagree, you are not a Rocket fan.
A lot of high school refs suck, too. I do agree though that the officiating has to be improved. ------------------
Maybe some type of rule where each team has one chance per game to show the ref a replay in order to argue a bad call. ------------------ [This message has been edited by Wakko67 (edited April 11, 2001).]
Good point. They'd get the minimum then... ------------------ Hakeem "The Dream" Olajuwon is the greatest player in the history of basketball. If you disagree, you are not a Rocket fan.
Then that would make them rush back and could cause them to re-aggravate the injury or make it even worse. ------------------ Never judge a man until you walk a mile in his shoes. That way when you do judge him, you're a mile away and you have his shoes.

I don't agree with them getting the minimum during an injury either, because that would work against players who are truly hurt and can't play. ------------------
Hey, they would still be making millions of dollars! The maximum would be a bonus for winning. Alright, here is a compromise. The players would still be paid based on the team's win-loss record. I have to add, that if a player was waived, their contracts would be worth the minimum. ------------------ Hakeem "The Dream" Olajuwon is the greatest player in the history of basketball. Space Ghost- that fast break foul you want was just instated this last summer. If Steve makes a steal, and is the only one coming down for the dunk, and gets fouled from behind, we get two free throws and possession.
I think it is called 'Clear Path Violation'. One free throw + possession of the ball ------------------ [This message has been edited by AB (edited April 13, 2001).]
