http://www.xboxyde.com/leech_1649_1_en.html That doesn't quite look like the following, IMO: EA didn't lie to us when they said the game would look much better than the prerendered stuff, did they?
Definently looks better than the version out right now but compared that picture they posted a long time ago it's way off.
pfft. If anyone actually believed that those other pictures were actually real screen shots, you'r teller called me and needs your debit card # and said to pass it over to me.
Wow, thats terrible looking for a next generation title...its just a slightly improved version of the xbox/ps2 Madden. Even the Xbox fanboy got some bad thing to say about it. http://forum.teamxbox.com/showthread.php?t=371512&page=3&pp=15 I really hope that's not the final product as I think they could improve soo much more then what's shown on that footage.
1up.com has a small article on this: http://www.gametab.com/news/361829/http:/www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3143540 I really hope that the bolded part doesn't mean as much as I think it might mean. If this game really will look pretty much just like this clip, then it looks like EA is just lazy with their Xbox 360 games. The Tiger Woods shots look pretty much the same way (better than anything out now, but not quite next-gen). I would probably say the same thing about NFS:MW, although I like it a little better than the other two. It doesn't really make sense really. Other games look great; even the Fight Night tech demo was amazing, and it was in realtime. I saw some next-gen Def-Jam Vendetta shots a while back, and those looked good as well. I guess I'm just not quite sure why all those titles look awesome, yet these games don't. I don't really see how this could improve that much in time for the Xbox 360 launch. EA can't use the Alpha Kit excuse anymore; in fact, the final kits have been out for a while now, so they may not even have no excuse as far as development kits. I think Epic was one of the last ones to get final kits, yet Gears of War has always looked amazing (in screenshots and in realtime). The earlier screenshots should have never really been taken as actual screen shots since even EA themselves said they were target renders. Although, they seemed confident that they would easily be able to surpass them, and given the graphics of other games, that seemed logical. Maybe it wasn't as easy as they thought?
It looks only slightly better then a PS2 game....and the thing that struck me was that the player movements were not as fluid as I expected. I think I was just convinced not to buy the next XBox.
There is no way for it to look like it does in the screenshots...they are close up pictures that are very detailed. When you are playing it has to be zoomed out in order to have the correct gameplay. I know this seems like common sense...but every year people see those close up screenshots and the unrealistic camera views in the commercials and think it will look like that when they are playing...the only way for that to happen is if you sacrifice gameplay.
Well, this EA you're talking about here...they're a company that never really focus on the graphics parts of the game but rather just the gameplay and with the only company to hold the NFL license, they could careless about the graphics since its going to sell regardless being the only football game out. With all that said, I still consider other titles like Dark Zero,Gotham Racing and Gears of War to look close to a next generation title, so I'm still convince the Xbox360 will be a good system.
Some of the screenshots weren't that up close. For example, here's one that looks pretty good to me, although it isn't exactly gameplay: Although at the time, I was a little disappointed at that screenshot...now, I'd be happy with it. I still think EA could have come up with similar graphics as some of the screenshots (probably not the one I posted in the first post, should've stayed away from that one). Again, this doesn't look much better than the PS2 version of the game. We could have had no screenshots of the game and still be really disappointed about that. Using past games as an example doesn't really work here. EA seemed positive that they would surpass the prerendered stuff. Granted, this clip wasn't up in the faces of the players, but I don't see how it could go from these graphics to the prerendered type graphics up close. That's too big of a jump even for a close-up versus a zoomed-out shot. I just don't get EA right now. At least last-gen, they worked real hard for the first next-gen versions of their games, and then just added on from there. It didn't even look like they bothered with that this time around. If they are using Renderware, which they used for the Fight Night demo, I don't think it would be too hard to come up with at least something that looks decent for a next-gen game. Oh well...I guess this will show the lazy developers (I'm looking at you too Activision) from the good ones (Bizarre Studios, Bethesda, Epic, etc). I'm really interested in seeing what Rare has been up to with PDZ. They've shown lots of Kameo, which looks pretty good. I just want to know if they massively improved the graphics, or if they will leave many gamers wanting more with PDZ (graphics-wise). I've heard some MS talk about how great it is, but I haven't seen anything since around E3. But yeah, there are other games that will keep the system going. Not having EA's best (or is this EA's best...hope not) may hurt MS a little bit if Madden fans (or fans of other EA games) don't see anything that impressive on the system. Getting EA to make a Madden game for the Xbox 360 was a great move by MS, but it may not be as great of a move as it could have been. It doesn't look like MS will have a PS2-type launch though, so there will still be something for the non-sports fans. BTW, this reminds me a little bit of the first media of the PSP version of Madden, although it was the complete opposite. The screenshots looked terrible...I mean TERRIBLE. But then a few days later, EA showed it in motion, and it looked a lot better. Pretty close to the PS2 version actually. Too bad that the 360 version does too...
Regardless of what 1up says, that has to be an old build. There was a clip of Shawn Alexander scoring a touchdown from the 360 version that looked 10x better than that BK clip. It was on some TV show showing the making of Madden 06. We will all see in November how the game turns out. But I will say that alot of the time graphics are the last thing to get added right before it goes gold. I am not sure how many remember the Need For Speed Underground demo that was shipped about 2 months before the game came out and the graphics were not impressive at all, then the game came out and the graphics were totally revamped. Maybe that is what is going to happen here. I don't care, I can't afford a 360 anyway, lol.
Are you talking about this clip? http://www.xboxyde.com/leech_1564_en.html It looks maybe a little better, but not really that much better than the BK clip, IMO. Especially since it only has two players. It definitely doesn't look like the prerendered stuff either. And I'm not sure about the comment about graphics being added late in the development cycle. From the few games I've looked at, it seems like the developers go with great graphics at the beginning, and then optimize that to acceptable framerates (like Gears of War, for example). I'm pretty sure some of the PS3 games are doing the same thing (Heavenly Sword, Killzone, Gundam, etc.) I think Bizarre Studios followed a similar approach with PGR 3 as well. I think they basically have two versions on their devkits: one version that runs at 60FPS and controls nicely, and then another 10-15 FPS version that is basically what Bizarre wants the game to look like in the end graphically. I suppose this could be a "stable" build, although why they would show it is beyond me (don't think media from the stable build of PGR3 is out there, readily available). If this is a relatively new build of the game, I wouldn't expect much of a jump in graphics, especially not to the calibur that EA promised. Just seems a little too late in the game, especially for a next-gen game. It isn't like great graphics are something you can just come up with in a short amount of time. The last few weeks are just to iron out the bugs and get the game ready for shipment.
without any real competition in their way, EA wouldn't need to put a lot of emphasis on making any innovative or graphical progress now. A tweak here, a tweak there, done deal.
A lot of the screenshots for XBOX360 and PS3 are being produced by regular xbox and ps2, I don't know why they're showing them like that. Gamespot.com has a lot of the next generation games that are coming out. Killzone2 for ps3 looks amazing.
Double post: Here are movies of Madden Next Gen for PS3, those screenshots are old I think. These graphics are pretty good. http://www.gamespot.com/ps3/sports/maddennflnextgen/media.html
That's the prerendered clips/screenshots that they showed during the draft. GS has it for the PS3, but isn't really the PS3 version. It is basically something for the Xbox 360 as well...although since it is prerendered, it can also be for the GBA, DS, PSP, Nokia Cell Phones, NES, etc. There most likely won't even be a Madden 06 for the PS3 actually.
Couple of things: 1. There were people in here saying that they'll wait and see the realtime, even when those early screenshots popped up. I agree with that. I never trust 'rendered video' or screenshots, etc. If following video games (particularly on the Internet) has taught me anything, it's never trust the hype crap the companies push out. It's why I didn't care much about those early Madden or NBA shots, or don't care much about the 'tech videos' Sony tried to push about the PS3 (like KILLZONE), or care much about XBOX's random video crap they showed during E3 that didn't have an actual game running. ALWAYS WAIT till you see actual gameplay. That's all that matters. 2. Having said that, I want to see this running on an XBOX 360 on a TV. That'll give me a real sense of the difference between what I see on a system now. I sometimes think people are expecting too much from 'next gen'.
If the shots were so incredible, I would have agreed with that approach. But there were already realtime examples of similar graphics running on PC hardware (UE 3.0, for example). It isn't like EA promised "Toy Story" graphics or anything like that. They set the bar a little high, but it was a very attainable goal, IMO. Apparently, they may not even be able to keep that promise from the look of it. I think it is just laziness by EA instead of hype that could never be reached on their part. Although I guess to be fair to EA, the 360 devkits got out a little later than expected earlier in the year. Maybe they were planning on starting on beta kits much earlier, but since they couldn't, the plans changed. I don't know. I tend to trust the tech videos from Sony just because of how it turned out last time. Contrary to what many think (don't know why), the PS2 tech demos were very accurate of the PS2's performance; in fact, if anything, they were pessimistic views of the performance. Games like Metal Gear Solid, God of War, GT4, etc., make those tech demos almost look like PS1 stuff (slight exaggeration for effect ). If Killzone and other games look nothing like the tech demos, then I'll change my stance on Sony's presentations. But they were accurate last time, so why wouldn't they be this time? Right now, I don't see why I couldn't play a game that looks as good or almost as good as Killzone on the PS3. If nothing approaches that level in the next 5 years or so, then I obviously will change my thinking about Sony tech demos. We'll just have to wait and see. Now MS, on the other hand, I'd have a hard time believing, mostly due to the demo with the girl and the robot (Raven I think is the name). And they actually promised "Toy Story" graphics, something I've yet to see coming from the mouth of anyone at Sony (another big misconception). Obviously, actually waiting to play the game is the best way to do things, but when things seems easily possibly to do in realtime, I will probably believe it. I don't know about others, but I usually just take in a few realtime clips of various games/engines, and depending on the particular situation (running on a one 6800 Ultra vs SLI 7800's vs Xbox 360 Beta Kits, etc.), I might raise my expectations a little bit for console games. I'd be fine with stuff like the FF7 Tech Demo (realtime), the Gundam real-time demo, Oblivion, etc. I'm not expecting FF:TSW or anything like that. What I'm NOT fine with is basically slightly better looking current-gen games, which there are a few of. That is unacceptable, IMO.
