Alright, If this T-Mac deal does go down, I'm excited at the possibilites we have for a new PG. I love having Tyrone Lue as a back up. He's a great defender and will thrive in Van Gundy's system. Now, who should be our starting PG? I like these three guys: Peeler, Fisher and Hudson. Peeler is a 12 year vet and he just opted for free agency from the kings. He is a solid player who didn't play much on a deep kings rotation. Fisher is a winner. He is confident, an underated defender, clutch shooter when necessary (Think Spurs Game 5!) and unselfish. He would complement the team well. He has great playoff experience and would be a great leader. Personally I like him the best. Finally, Hudson is also a solid player who has played with T-mac. He is a good shooter so that is a plus. Who do yall think we should take?
Derek Fisher I know it is almost a cliche, but he is the ultimate playoff performer, and his tough D and catch-and-shoot should be the perfect complement to Yao and Tmac. He could mean the difference in the playoffs, and with Ollie/Lue, it would be easy to let him groom a possible replacement while keeping the regular season minutes down. My #1 choice, at a reasonable price> maybe $12mil over 3 years. Brent Barry I've been envisioning him alongside Yao for a long time, and I still would love to see it. But I do not think a backcourt of Tmac and Barry will hold down anyone (If you thought Steve and Cat were bad...). Still, even with the advanced age and possibly steep price, his size and outside shooting could be lethal. Also a terrific passer and fastbreak-director. A good second option for $18mil over 4 years. Nick Van Exel Another excellent offensive, weak defensive gunner. He worries me with his penchant for being mutinous. Age/Health is also a worry. Unless he comes cheap ($8mil over 3 years), I'll pass. Troy Hudson Has more upside than any of the others...the only with the potential to become an All-Star at the position. But that is also his downside (along with price)...he is not a proven commodity, so while he has the best ceiling, he also has the lowest floor. If we can get him for something like Mobley ($30mil over 5-6yrs), I'd definitely consider, but that may not be a possibility for Hudson's price tag. Overall, Fisher and Barry are 1A and 1B, with Hudson next. followed by Van Exel. I can't think of anyone else worthy of starting over the incumbants.
Why do you guys think Brent Barry is a PG ....pathetic! He's a legit SG!! He's not a PG. Get Hudson!!! OR Fisher!! OR NASH
Just saw Jimm Kimmel He asked if Fisher was going to sign with Houston, fisher responded by saying not in his exact words, i dont know where ill be going, with draft happening tommrow lots of team will be making changes. he then says other stuff. to anyone that catched it the skit where next season lakers came out was hilarious.
If Barry is only a SG then Ray Allen must be playing alot of Small Forward while Rashard puts in time at PF.
How do Barry's and Troy Hudson's shooting percentages -- from inside and outside the arc -- compare over the past three years?
I can tell you this - Peeler can still shoot, Fish would be a great addition, Hudson is a solid point guard but if you can get a 24 year old Carlos Arroyo? Kid is a SOLID point guard! Just some thoughts to uhh.....think about!
i've read rumor's jvg is pushing hard for charlie ward. weatherspoon will get good minutes under jvg next season. rasheed is a distant possibilty. jvg has unfinished business from his knick's days...
