Willie Wonka, get ready!! Is Ray Nagin the black version of David Duke? The guy has lost his mind. If this comment is made by a white mayor, the NAACP would be tripping over themselves to protest. In the midst of a fund raising campaign to help rebuild New Orleans, Mayor Nagin's divisive commentary isn't going to help. New Orleans Mayor Says God Mad at U.S. Jan 16 9:44 PM US/Eastern By BRETT MARTEL Associated Press Writer NEW ORLEANS Mayor Ray Nagin suggested Monday that Hurricanes Katrina and Rita and other storms were a sign that "God is mad at America" and at black communities, too, for tearing themselves apart with violence and political infighting. "Surely God is mad at America. He sent us hurricane after hurricane after hurricane, and it's destroyed and put stress on this country," Nagin, who is black, said as he and other city leaders marked Martin Luther King Day. "Surely he doesn't approve of us being in Iraq under false pretenses. But surely he is upset at black America also. We're not taking care of ourselves." Nagin also promised that New Orleans will be a "chocolate" city again. Many of the city's black neighborhoods were heavily damaged by Katrina. "It's time for us to come together. It's time for us to rebuild New Orleans _ the one that should be a chocolate New Orleans," the mayor said. "This city will be a majority African American city. It's the way God wants it to be. You can't have New Orleans no other way. It wouldn't be New Orleans." Nagin described an imaginary conversation with King, the late civil rights leader. "I said, `What is it going to take for us to move on and live your dream and make it a reality?' He said, `I don't think that we need to pay attention any more as much about other folks and racists on the other side.' He said, `The thing we need to focus on as a community _ black folks I'm talking about _ is ourselves.'" Nagin said he also asked: "Why is black-on-black crime such an issue? Why do our young men hate each other so much that they look their brother in the face and they will take a gun and kill him in cold blood?" The reply, Nagin said, was: "We as a people need to fix ourselves first." Nagin also said King would have been dismayed with black leaders who are "most of the time tearing each other down publicly for the delight of many." A day earlier, gunfire erupted at a parade to commemorate King's birthday. Three people were wounded in the daylight shooting amid a throng of mostly black spectators, but police said there were no immediate suspects or witnesses. http://www.breitbart.com/news/2006/01/16/D8F65JUG5.html
I was pretty sure he was not right in the head when he declared that the CIA was trying to "take him out".
But he seems to make much more news now that he's a Democrat. I wonder if he fell on his head. Anyway, I'm sure he wouldn't be in the news if not for Katrina.
http://www.click2houston.com/news/6153685/detail.html Man, I never EVER start (maybe once) any thread at all in the D&D, and never come here to pee or poop on anyone, whether yellow, purple, brown, black or white, but I thought that when I saw the article above my wife pointed out in Click2Houston, all heck was going to break loose. This further points out this mayor's incompetence. I read an article in the December/January issue of Hispanic Magazine, a magazine which honors outstanding all sorts of "Latino" or "Hispanic" people in the U.S., which spoke of "In Katrina's Wake" what Mayor Nagin had said: This was after pointing out that it was mostly Hispanics (mainly Mexican immigrant workers) who took the challenge of going to New Orleans to rebuild the city all the way from as far as California and Arizona. You KNEW that it was mostly Mexicans, not African Americans, taking up the manual labor jobs regardless of place and pay. Sad things this mayor does, indeed. , then
He's worried about losing his job. If his traditional base of African American voters doesn't come back he's done for.
As a minority I hate seeing stuff like this. No one wants a chocolate city, no one wants a vanilla city, a sweet and sour city, a salsa city or a curry city.
I want what New Orleans once was. We can never have her back again, in quite the same way, but we can work to make her the best she can be, considering all that has happened. Nagin will meet his justice at the ballot box. It is up to the nation to help give New Orleans her justice, which is to live again. In my opinion. Keep D&D Civil.
Nagin has .. uhm . . issues He has lost his balance and focus . . . He is not being a very good politician though he does raise a concern among black folx the idea that . . basically the poor folx were left to languish so that they can be run off their land. There is *real* concern that they will not be allowed to go back that will be taken from them and sold to Corps Rocket River . . . . I've heard much talk about that
ummmmmmm..... this guy has consistently made racist comments and he would be completely ostracized and portrayed in the light of a david duke if he was not black. so you state he has lost his balance, focus, and is being a poor politician???? come on man thats pretty weak. i don't need to break down his comments so if you don't see how bad they are then i don't know what to say.
