A couple of weeks ago I read that the owner of the Jazz is willing to sell the name Jazz to the owners of the New Orleans Hornets. Does anybody know what has happened with this?
Better than having a franchise called the Utah Jazz. New Orleans Jazz is the only choice. It's the only smart thing out there.
It would have been smart to trade the Utah basketball team's name with the New Orleans football team. Thus, you could have the New Orleans Jazz and the Utah Saints, both of which make a lot of sense.
WHAT HAPPENED TO NEW ORLEANS "VOO DOO" i liked that one. when Baron got his contract they were talking about chinging the name. The other one I remember them mentioning was the "Pistols" too similar to "Pistons" to me.
They should switch the teams too. Then we will have the New Orleans Jazz to hate. Wait, should we hate the Utah Hornets, then? Do we hate the Jazz or do we hate Utah? Or maybe we just hate Stockton and Malone? I'm confused.
As of now this is going nowhere (the Jazz name) and it seems that the Hornets owners are not all that hip to the idea. If this was done it would be more so to please the fans. In fact there was a guy with a sign at the game last night that read "Utah, were kickin your butt and takin OUR name back" If it happened I think it would be great. N.O. could get the name Jazz back, Charlotte could have the name Hornets for their expansion team, and Utah could become the Pioneers, Stormin Mormons, or whatever. Then all would be right, New Orleans Jazz, Charlotte Hornets, Utah Pioneers. Everybody would be happy, even Charlotte, which would be great. It's not like there is any Jazz in Utah anyway. As for VooDoo, that name is actually owned by Saints owner Tom Benson, and is the planned name of his arena football team (which will likley never happen) at any rate it would be a great name, if they could convince Benson to give it up. There was also talk of going with Brass, but that was the name of the now defunct New Orleans ECHL team.
This reminds me of a line from BaseketBall... "The Minneapolis Lakers moved to Los Angeles where there are no lakes...the Houston Oilers moved to Tennessee where there is no oil...and the New Orleans Jazz moved to Utah where they don't allow music."
unfortunately... i have been listening to the dan patrick show recently..on espn radio... and they brought up the point that, new orleans hornets is a terrible nickname...(they were interviewing baron davis).. if you say it three times fast...they are right...it really doesnt work new orleans hornets new orleans hornets new orleans hornets its a tongue twister... they need to change it...
