If this has been posted then my bad, lock it. Click In the midst of a slew of reports over the past few weeks that suggest superstar Carmelo Anthony is as good as gone from the Nuggets, the team's new executive vice president of basketball operations, Masai Ujiri, says he still has hopes of keeping the high-scoring forward. "I love Melo," Ujiri said this morning in a phone interview. "I grew up in this league with Melo, kind of. It was my first years in the league, and I watched him grow. The Denver Nuggets want to keep Melo, and that's our priority. Carmelo is the Denver Nuggets, he's the city of Denver, he's done so well on this team. So we're going to deal with the issue full force." Anthony has not signed a three-year, $65 million contract offer that has been on the table since June. Ujiri, who started in his new position today, said he plans to meet with Anthony soon to discuss any possibility of a future with the organization. Anthony and Ujiri have had a solid relationship. "I'm going to visit with my team and we're going to address the whole situation," Ujiri said. "I will meet with Melo and talk to Melo and we'll go from there. I know Melo has his frustrations, but we must not forget this was a Western Conference Finals team a year ago (in 2009)." Asked specifically if he thinks there is a chance Anthony could still be a Nugget for years to come, Ujiri replied, "Yes. He's a superstar in the league, and that's our priority. We want to keep Melo. We love Melo. That's all I can say." Ujiri, 39, had been working for the Toronto Raptors. Ujiri worked for four seasons in the Nuggets' scouting department, which included being named director of international scouting for the 2006-07 season. Prior to that, Ujiri worked as an international scout with the Orlando Magic in 2002-03. A native of Zaria, Nigeria, Ujiri attended prep school in Seattle, went to junior college in North Dakota and attended Montana State. He played basketball in college and then professionally for six years in Europe. The Nuggets' opening was created when the team did not renew the contracts of vice president of basketball operations Mark Warkentien and vice president of player personnel Rex Chapman on Aug. 3. The door opened for Ujiri when the Nuggets were unable to reach an agreement with David Griffin, a former Phoenix Suns director of basketball operations. Yeah, and dan ferry wanted Lebron to stay in Cleveland. What GM wouldn't want their best player to stay on their team?
Yeah but Lebron was a FA. Melo is still on their team, if the GM will do whatever it takes to keep Melo, they won't trade him. Simple as that.
Then lose him to New York for nothing in the offseason. Not a great way to start off as a GM to follow the Toronto and Cleveland model. Deadline deal is also worse off. Best time is now while all the deals are high. Later on its a half season rental some teams might not offer up as much for.
but if melo wants to leave when he becomes a free agent a good gm would trade him before so they can at least get something back.Simple as that.
There is the looming lockout. Carmelo wants to leave, but he also wants that extension in place. Who knows what happens if Denver plays hardball, maybe he signs the extension after all.
And Bosh and Lebron pretended like their old teams were in the mix, giving their GMs hope that re-signing them was possible. Melo is making it clear that he's not going to be in Denver next season. NOTE: Both of those players did sign and trades so the Cavs and Raptors did at least get something (draft picks) out of the deal.
I don't believe Melo has the courage to walk away from that 3 year extension. I think if Denver stays strong, he signs with them. DD
The parallels between Paul and Melo keep growing. Both teams fired their GM's and hired new ones with the ploy of spinning it as "we're gonna build a championship contender around our superstar". Neither will succeed.
Carmelo's wife is a d-list celebrity, who's probably looking to move up to the c-list. I think he's getting pressured to play in NY or LA, and I think Denver has zero chance of changing his/her mind. If the owner wants to play hardball, it's going to get ugly, so I think they're bluffing. Carmelo will be traded to the Nets or Clippers before training camp begins. That's my prediction (hunch), and I'm sticking to it. I'd love to be wrong, though, and see him come to Houston. A few years ago, I wouldn't have wanted him on the team, but I'm tired of watching the Rockets lose. Carmelo makes us a top two team in the West, and that's all that matters to me. Just win baby!
Yeah and I wanna have a threesome with Jessica Alba and Megan Fox but that aint happenin either. Dude, Melo is leaving Denver, face the facts and send him to Houston already.
