You should ask Barack Hussein Obama since he seems to get nice fat contributions from them all the time...
Because he is very pro-oil and gas - it is a well-known fact that democrats are pro-fossil fuel and greenhouse gas. Thanks for telling us of this! We wouldn't know otherwise!
Everyone gets campaign contributions from oil companies. But not many apologize to BP for holding them accountable for the oil spill.
how about the "WE DON'T LIKE OUR PRESIDENTS IF'N THEIR NAMES SOUNDS ALL FORGEIGN-IZED AND WHAT NOT" party
In 2008 Obama received $71,000 from people who were employed by BP. That's $71,000 out of $750 million he raised from over 5 million donors. In 2008, BP's PAC was heavily invested on both sides, but gave the most to the following: Joe Barton (R) Judy Biggert (R-Illinois) Boehner (R) Blunt (R) Cornyn (R) Dingell (D) Hoyer (D) Landrieu (Sort of D) Lincoln (D) McConnell (R) Melancon (D) Nunes (R-CA) Pearce (R-NM) Pence (R) Rangel (D) Stevens (R) Young (R) 11 R's and 6 D's. Obama received no contributions from BP's PAC.
The undeniable truth is that continuity in lack of over-sight for these companies has run from past presidents and IN to the current administration. There is a lot of liberals who tag 9/11 on GW and say the same thing (acknowledging fault in past admins but putting the blame where the buck ultimately stopped in real-time at that time) I don't blame Obama entirely for all of this. It has been a long time coming. But for him to posture the way he has recently is wrong. Hope is one thing, but to think BP pouring money in a pit can restore what is (and will be lost) is silly.
This is an extremely misleading, misguided post. For decades, Democrats have been the party of regulation and Republicans have been the party of de-regulation. Democrats have also been the party trying to push alternative energy sources since Jimmy Carter; Republicans have thwarted those efforts at every turn, preferring to be the party of "drill baby drill." It's no surprise. Just follow the money. There is honestly nothing stupider than saying 'everyone does it' when that is so clearly not the case. As for blaming Bush for 9/11 vs. blaming Obama for BP, that is ludicrous as well. Bush was directly warned, more than once, about Osama Bin Laden preparing an attack on U.S. soil; he was even briefed about the possibility of using hijacked planes to carry out the attack. All by Richard Clarke. I don't blame him for not getting to it right away, as 9/11 happened early in his presidency, but it was a lie when he said "nobody could have predicted this." Clarke specifically predicted it and put it on Bush's desk. Meanwhile, Obama also had a lot to deal with early in his presidency and oil regulations was not at the top of his list. But he is and has always been with the party of regulation (Dems) which has been thwarted at every turn by the pro-corporate, anti-regulation party (GOP). Saying everyone is equally to blame in this is as dumb as it comes. If I could negative rep, I would.
Who cares who's to blame? The important thing is that it gets FIXED - and the only guilty parties now are those that try to prevent the solution of this problem. The individuals responsible for running a corporation (and possibly even the shareholders) need to lose the impervious shield that corporate law grants them - it is the ONLY way that corporations are going to behave responsibly to the communties and countries in which they operate.
