Remember when the Staples Center used to be one of the brightest arenas in the NBA? Well, they made it darker this year. http://www.nba.com/lakers/news/lights_out.html Check out the arena on TNT right now (Lakers/Suns game). I really like it.
It's good.. they need the focus to be on the court for when the Rockets come to town and gives them a royal thrashing.
i was just talking about this earlier with some other nerds. anyhoo, it reminds me of the forum in inglewood.
its actually only planned for tonights game. they cant have it the entire season because they would have to then restructure the entire lights in the staples center. if they feel that it was a whole lot better than they may do that, the problem is that the staples is the home for the kings, sparks and the clippers as well I cant see them being able to change it for one team. they may try to do it again for another big game. i dont really see how it made a difference in the game. for me the distracting thing with laker games is how they would pan out to the celebs and have interviews with the celebs
I noticed that it looks like they took the focus of the light off the crowd it looks dark past the benches
That does make sense, but I'm pretty sure they can configure the arena any way they want to. Instead of restructuring the entire lighting scheme, they can install new lights to focus directly on the court and dim the outer ones. It wouldnt be hard at all and it wouldn't affect the other teams. Just think, sharing an arena with 3 professional teams going on at the same time. What a hassle
Los Angeles Kings, the NHL team. They play at Staples. However, for some reason I thought the Sparks went back to play in the forum. I'm pretty sure Im wrong, but I remember hearing something about that..
To shed some light on this subject, this isnt a very original concept by the Lakers. In fact, Toyota Center had this lighting last year......for the All Star Game only that is. And so did any All-Star game host from 2003 (starting w/ATL) running through last years game at Toyota Center. You'll probably see it again this year when the All Star Game is played in Las Vegas. "Project Focus" as it was termed, was done by the NBA for the very same reason....to focus attention to the All Star Game itself and discourage "star-gazing" in the crowds. And for the record...the Lakers are the only team in the NBA using this lighting concept full time. Not even the Clips use it, they still use Staple standard Mercury lighting. But mark my words.....it will now become a trend like LED ribbon boards. Soon everyone will have it.
I hope this doesn't become a trend. I like seeing Miami fans do their white out games, and I'd like to see the Toyota Center full of red one day. I guess L.A. fans aren't that exciting, so they decided to hide them. They'll still interview the celebs though.
this isnt new indeed, i remember the season before we got Yao, they did it at the Compaq Center. I thought to myself, why the hell is it so dark in here but I liked it though. It was awesome when they did it when Hakeem came back during his first and only season with the Raptors
