so i think my norton and my word is going to expire in 40 days. what's a good anti-virus to have? for word, i think i can find a key on the internet right? what other programs can be useful for a laptop? i already have bittorrent. i know there are different versions of photoshop, which one is the best to get? i also have vlc player already so i don't think i need any other media player. i'm an aspiring industrial engineer, what programs should i put on my laptop? oh and any recommendations for a wallpaper? any help is appreciated! thanks thanks thanks
Your post comes across like you are asking where you can steal software. You ought to rephrase what it is you are asking for. I don't think these are the kinds of posts that Clutch appreciates on this board. The best programs to get are ones you actually pay for.
oh crap, lol. are you serious? cause i used to recall there was a thread like this before and people were posting programs and stuff. but you're right. wrote my post all wrong, sorry if i have offended anybody.
Antivirus - Microsoft Security Essentials BEST version of photoshop is CS4, Elements is okay but if you are serious get the real thing
Best AV software: ESET NOD 32 (very effective and lightweight, for "advanced" PC users) Torrent: uTorrent A/V player: VLC or K-Lite Codecs+ CLassicMedia Player Office Suite: MS Office 2007 (2010 coming out in a bit) but only if you can get a college discount ~$35, otherwise Open Office works fine
+1 on Open Office. I like it. I'd suggest going to CNET or download.com and looking up the kinds of software you want. As for an antivirus, if you are strictly using it for personal / home use, I'd suggest looking up the "avast!" free version. You can even register it for free updates, etc. And don't forget Spybot S & D!
agreed on MS Security Essentials. it's free and it's got a built in anti-malware. it's actually pretty good too. http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/ as for cs4, i actually perfer cs3. cs4's tab scheme (mainly opening images inside existing image tabs) and floating windows are kinda annoying.
Avira AntiVir is rated higher than AVG Free. There's a daily nag prompt, but that's the price to pay for FREE.
second Avira... I prefer it to Avast personally after having tried both. I don't mind closing 1 window every morning--it's just a splash screen and nothing else.
Here is a cool site that one of my buddies showed me. As someone that does software packaging for a living, I wish I had thought of this. It would be super easy. http://ninite.com/
Norton 360 (2009 and up) 3.0 edition. It's really good, WAY better than how norton used to be in the past. Norton used to be a terrible resource hog, much better now.
this website is freak'n amazing. the packaged installer would've saved me a lot of time had i have known. thanks!
