There's a new app from Houston Metro called Metro T.R.I.P. You enter your location (or have location services find it for you), and it displays all the buses (and one train) around your area and how far they are from you. Pretty interesting. Anyone else used it on here?
What if India was never partitioned? Sometimes I wonder if India was never partitioned, what it would have become. In my estimation it would have been a world superpower by now. It's really one of the tragedies of the 20th century that it had to happen, and at least one million people died as a result. Long term, Pakistan was created and the world is suffering as a result, and Bangladesh is one of the most corrupt nations on earth.
I'll have tons of time to check it out when I'm in my car on 290 this evening headed to Cypress. Thanks a lot, Metro.
Pretty good idea for people who have never ridden the bus before, but not much to offer the people who ride it every day. Metro said 2 years ago they were coming out with an app that would allow you to track your bus via GPS (which would come in handy while you're waiting at your stop and/or trying to make your connection) but that never came to fruition.
Nextbus is pretty good too. A few campuses in TX use it. Texas Arlington Trolley Fort Worth Stephen F Austin State University Texas State University San Marcos University of Houston http://www.nextbus.com/predictor/agencySelector.jsp
Tried it yesterday, and it didn't have the 50 bus as imminent, even though it was a block away. I guess the times displayed are just expected times, which is meaningless at rush hour downtown. It also crashed a bunch of times. 1/10 would not press app icon again
Just downloaded it. I will give it a try when it's time for me to catch the 18 later today. For now, it seems pretty hard to navigate.
Houston metro is POS organization. They held a town hall were literally every person who showed up wanted more public transportation, and they go out on an all out campaign to make sure public transport funds are used for roads.
Tried the app today. Seems that all the buses don't have GPS on them, but the ones that do are accurate. Only problem is the GPS isn't that good, you have to click where are you first, and then click the second button to see what buses are around you. If it says realtime, that means the bus has GPS, if it says scheduled time, it doesn't.
