Thought those of you who are rooting for Kerry to end up with the nomination would be happy to see this:

Kerry Regains Front-runner Status Among Democrats in New Hampshire

Regaining momentum lost following cancer surgery and the war in Iraq, Massachusetts Senator John Kerry has regained sole front-runner status in ballot preference among likely Democratic primary voters in the New Hampshire Democratic Presidential Preference Primary according to the latest New Hampshire Poll. Kerry receives support from 28% of likely Democratic primary voters and is followed by former Vermont Governor Howard Dean at 18%. Senator Joe Lieberman, at 11%, and Congressman Dick Gephardt, at 10%, are the only other potential Democratic candidates to receive double-digit support. Kerry has regained strength among registered Democrats likely to vote in the primary and now leads Dean by nearly 2-to-1 among this group

It will be tough to defeat Bush. Bush is raising $$$ like crazy. Bush has provided an excellent rate of return on his campaign contributions, with the spoils from Iraq weapons expended, troops to feed courtesy of Halliburton's food subsididiary and Halliburton, Bechtel etc. having got a juicy piece of the post war reconstruction pie.

At approximately one US soldier a day killed in the occupation of Iraq I still think they will be able to spin the Iraq War wmd or no wmd as a grand old success. If it gets much worse than that it could be tough to spin it and the whole deception regarding Niger uranium, and the various misrepresentations re wmd could hurt Bush.

The economy could be an issue, but I predict that the American people can be baffled by patriotism and their feelings that a militarist like Bush can protect them from terrorism can last till Nov. 2004, but not much longer..

Bush-- $200 mill + is going to be very tough running unopposed, esp. with all the Demo's thrashing each other in the primaries. If we keep posting against Bush on the BBS though WE can make a difference. ;)

Ya gotta understand that's what primaries are for. They bash the crap out of each other, then when the general election rolls around they play nice-nice and sing 'we are the world' together. Happens every time there is not an incumbent (and sometimes when there is) in both parties.

I think it is entirely possible that there could be a massive backlash over the way the conservatives have really rubbed everyones noses in the fact that they are in power. I personally know a number of liberals who are grumbling that they didn't realize how close it would be in '00 and that they will be ready in '04.

Unfortunately, I am not eligible to run until '08. LOLOL

I don't know whether they do or not. All I know is we heard this same talk exactly 12 years ago. No one gave any Democrat a chance in the 1992 election. You know what happened.

John Kerry and Howard Dean would make fantastic leaders. These are the only two Democratic candidates I'm even considering at this point.

However, the only Democrat who has a prayer against Bush right now is John Edwards. This could change (and no doubt will), but Southerners are so terrified of "New England liberals" that they would vote for a Dr. Pepper bottle before these guys.

I don't think Kerry can win. Gephardt would be a better choice. I would actually be afraid of Gephardt.

I am surprised that you were not more "afraid" of Sharpton.

Kerry can beat Bush. Gephardt will be lucky to make it through a handful of primaries.

I would be very surprised, assuming Kerry won the Dem nomination, if Bush's handlers would agree to public debates. Kerry will not back down in a debate. Bush would be clearly overmatched.

come on..you know there's no way in the world there won't be public debates for a presidential election.

as for bush being overmatched...i heard those EXACT same words in 2000 about Al Gore.

It's funny how these incidents are referred to as "debates".

To me, that's the last thing they are. Presidential "debates" have more in common with the Miss America pageant than they do with "debating".

That said, I too heard those exact same words in 2000. And, Gore blew it in the debates.

I think John Kerry stands a far better chance of doing well in a Presidential "debate" than Al Gore did.

    Why?

    He's not made of wood!:D
