Darn it, I voted for tank but but I meant to recheck the top one, "Get every player back healthy over the next few weeks and make a push for the playoffs." I'm not sure about the idea of tanking yet.
Make the playoff? This shouldn't be an options right now. Fans from other teams will laugh to death if they see this poll. No. 1 draft pick here we come.
As much as I relish the thought at this point of the chance in securing the #1 pick, I don't think that's the best route to go. I think that the team needs to use the rest of this year as a springboard for next year. Play the players that people pay to see, but integrate some of the other players (8-12) more. Test different offenses. It's not like it's a given that we're just going to go into next season and automatically be ready to go. Things can be done this season to prepare for next. The more time Yao, McGrady, and the rest of the team (particularly the ones whom the Rockets staff feel certain to keep, because we can't trade anybody) have time to play together as a team, the better off we'll ultimately be. I think it's a given that simply telling T-Mac to shut it down for the rest of the season may not really help his condition that much- I mean, he said he was in the best shape of his life before the season started and he still was stricken with the back. So I say you don't give him any more rest than he actually needs. Every opportunity you have to play against NBA competition- you take it. Besides, the NBA's set up perfectly for everybody- you can be a low seed and make it to the Finals, or you can be a high lottery seed (e.g. best record for a non-playoff team) and still have a chance to get a high draft pick. Say No to Tank!
tank. we got yao out of it last time and the texans are about to get the #1 pick. apparently houston teams know how to get it done, so i say we do the same. there's no point in doing well the rest of the season and falling short and then not only missing the playoffs, but getting a lesser pick like 10-13 anyway. we aren't winning a championship this year so anything that helps reach that goal in the future is good. a higher draft pick is better than a lower one so you might as well go all out to get it. although i wouldn't be opposed to some trade that helps us in the future and also this season like a possible artest deal (if artest can really be said to be a positive) that could then be combined with a nice draft pick and really help us out.
I wish I can put in Chinese here which can better express my thoughts. But YES, you have said what I want to say. Forget the W-L record, just play every single game and try your best to win each of them. For those injured players, take as much rest as you need, don't come back until you are 100% recovered and 100% ready to compete. For the players who are playing right now, give us all your best and play for your dignity. For the coach, tailor-make some game plans for the players you have in hand and let them play. TMAC and Yao cannot play 48 minutes every game even they are 100% healthly.
We should do one of the following: 1. Tank. 2. Make a big trade to shake up the team (adding a legit 3rd option), and try to play as well as we can so we go into next year with some momentum, like what the Warriors did last year. Late push without upgrading for next year is pointless unless we flat-out dominate and get on some crazy 20 game winning streak thus becoming a major threat in the playoffs.
Playoff is HOPELESS I wont call for a tank .. I'll just say PLAY IT OUT 12-25 to even think about the playoff we would have to go 34-11 to get to 46-36
I've got to go with tank and get the best draft pick possible. Here's the deal, next season we're pretty much assured Sura and Barry are retired. Clearly Moochie is gone. Deke has maybe another year left in the tank. Wesley, if he has anything left in the tank at all, should be coming off the bench and the same can probably be said for Derek Anderson. Juwan Howard is certainly getting up there in years too, and as far as I'm concerned, quite possibly the biggest reason for many of these injuries is that we're playing these old guys way too many minutes. Now, when you look at all of those guys, you've got to figure at least three or four of them will be gone next season, and a few more will need to have greatly diminished roles. And what do we have to bring in talent? We've got a first and second round draft pick and the MLE. If we're lucky, V. Span is ready to go too. Basically, I'm really worried at how we're going to replenish our depth with this many guys either retiring or having their contracts expire. I think those factors make it all the more important that we acquire a solid draft pick that can hopefully at least be a key contributor off the bench. In a draft as weak as the upcoming one, you gotta draft high to pull that off. tank! tank! tank!
Rudy Gay would be a huge upgrade over anyone the Rockets have right now. Just because the Rockets have sucked at drafting doesn't mean there aren't good players in every draft.
I am not for tanking the season (I dont even understand how the team would begin to go about it). But for the sake of conversation lets say we do tank the next 45 games. How exactly is this gonna make us better for next season? Just because we draft a high draft pick that does not mean we will be automatic contenders. The things that have happened to the Rox this season are unprecendeted and very uncommon. Stromile was a former top five draft pick by the Grizz and we have him signed now. Whats to say that the pick we do get will automatically make this team better. Speaking as a fan that will never be satisfied with watching a team give up, I do not see how anyone that recommends the Rox tank the season can call themselves a true fan?
