I'm too lazy to explain it, so I googled for you if others agree with me. https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/46maqc/am_i_the_only_one_who_hates_the_new_espn_boxscore/
right, except for the fact their boxscores in any sport never load. it throws me out of the browser on my iphone. their boxscore pages are way too heavy vs light weight (using software terminology) probably due to ads and auto plaaying vids. for me, its unusable on mobile
Lol, you literally have to press one button to see the full stats for either team. Overview is great for what it is, a brief overview to glance over the MOST SIGNIFICANT THREE STATS IN BASKETBALL. Guess how many buttons you have to click to get to the boxscore for NBA.com? One, same as ESPN (since it auto defaults to game recap section for some reason).
I don't think it's that bad. After a while will get used to it. People said the same thing when they changed their front page to a never ending scrolling page. Now whenever anyone clicks on ESPN.com they read the front page.
And that adds up to two buttons when you want to see both teams. You can't see full stats on the same page to compare. You have to toggle back and forth. It's annoying. But for me, what is really horrible is the PBP page. I used that all the time for looking up previous games to see who was on the court together and what happened. Made baskets are no longer highlighted. It's not as clear to see substitutions. I have different reasons for researching PBP this way. One is to find a timestamp of a specific play to rewatch. So, feel free to tell ESPN that I will no longer use their boxscores/PBP to research past games. Now it's either bball-ref or nba.com, when ESPN previously had the best and easiest to read PBP around. Now they are completely unusable for finding specific plays or who was on the court. Or even scanning made baskets. It's horrible.
When breaking down a box score, I focus on O-rebs, TOs and 3-point shooting which the new format removes. I also like +/-. Not showing FTs is flat out insane. ESPN needs to hire Chet Wallaby and have him take the blame. The old format was perfection they shouldn't have messed with.
I was trying to say that it was optimized for mobile. I guess i was wrong, haha Check out the yahoo sports app, its been pretty good for checking box scores
Yes, the new box score format sucks. Major step back. Old format was much better and more informative.
I just use Yahoo now. I've noticed they are faster in updating the box score than ESPN is. I used to like ESPN's website though. This new one has been terrible in a lot of ways.
Eh, it's not so bad. This does suck though. People said we'd like it when we got used to it. I absolutely hate it. I stopped going there altogether a month or two ago.
I still use yahoo sports for scores. ESPN's sites are just way too bloated and cumbersome. Their UX stinks.
