I like it. So fill me in..Layne Staley has been gone since 02, is this some previously unreleased stuff?
william duvall? hmm. I thought it was Jerry Cantrell. either way.....I love AIC. this new stuff sounds great.
Staley obviously can't be replaced. I am not sure about the song yet. Cantrell is obviously pushed forward in the vocals and the "Not Staley" guy sounds a little...synthetic or digitized or something and that is jarring. Also, from what I heard on the radio the recording sounded compressed and all channels on loud crap that has plagued most recordings these days. For something as textured (for rock) as AiC, that is really not a good thing.
cantrell does some vocals too. there's solo stuff from the late 90s, from cantrell, which is pretty good.
Yeah, I wasn't so into Boggy Depot, but the Degradation Trip stuff was everything that a Jerry Cantrell solo album should sound like, & more. imo, anyway. I remain a huge Layne fan (the Mad Season CD is prolly in my all-time top 15-20) but this new AIC? I'll take it. Much better than I anticipated. I hope the rest is as a rockin'.
Wow this is a must watch for any AiC fans. Some killer covers here by music legends. Layne's passing will always be one of the most horrible drug addiction deaths IMO -- just shooting speedballs 24/7 and rotting basically.
I watched this once today, and started it again tonight. It was awesome. Not too proud to admit I may have shed a tear or two. Especially when Chris Cornell’s daughter was introduced. Or when they presented awards to Layne and Mike’s families. Doesn’t hurt that MoPOP is my favorite museum ever. Some great performances too. AND.....I gotta give William Duvall some props......really makes me want to see the new iteration of this band. Chris Cornell was my favorite artist of that genre, and I LOVE soundgarden, temple of the dog, Pearl Jam, nirvana and many more.......but AIC was my fave.
funny story. (To me anyway). Ann Wilson PISSED me off today (and I LOVE Heart). There’s a line in Rooster that I’ve always considered one of the most poignant lines in rock lyrics.....so much so, that every time I hear the song, I’m waiting for it. Rooster is all about how war is absolute hell, and I know that a lot of guys went off to fight in Vietnam, and it changed them so much, and the war....(and thus the soldiers) was unpopular. So marriages failed while these GI’s were off fighting for “freedom.” I always thought the line was “Lawyer sent me pictures of my boy”. This described to me a totally destroyed marriage where a soldier in Vietnam, in the midst of a contentious divorce, could only see a picture of his son through an intermediary. Turns out the line was “Gloria sent me pictures of my boy.” Still sad imagery.....but not nearly as poignant to me. Damn you Ann and your beautiful voice.
I’m guessing you’re pulling my leg, but I’m okay with my weirdness. (And I’ve also been partially deaf since before high school....so, misunderstood lyrics is pretty common with me).
Yep that was a leg pull -- I literally never know the lyrics correctly it's always mildly amusing when I learn my mistake... Wait he's not saying 'Excuse me while I kiss this guy'?
